On genocide, fools rush in
New Yorl Daily News ^ | 10/19/07 | Charles Krauthammer

That between 1 million and 1.5 million Armenians were brutally and systematically massacred starting in 1915 in a deliberate genocidal campaign is a matter of simple historical record. If you really want to deepen and broaden awareness of that historical record, you should support the establishment of the Armenian Genocide Museum and Memorial in Washington. But to pass a declarative resolution in the House of Representatives in the middle of a war in which we are inordinately dependent on Turkey is the height of irresponsibility.

KEYWORDS: pelosi; turkey
Bears repeating:

In explaining any puzzling Washington phenomenon, always choose stupidity over conspiracy, incompetence over cunning. Anything else gives them too much credit.

"(c) Was House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's determination to bring this to a vote, knowing that it risked provoking Turkey into withdrawing crucial assistance to U.S. soldiers in Iraq, a conscious (columnist Thomas Sowell) or unconscious (blogger Mickey Kaus) attempt to sabotage the war effort?"

The bold gets my vote.

The Democrats will sell their souls for power.
Acts of treason are daily and common place in the 110th congress, and it really is Bush’s fault. Bush derangement syndrome consumes the left.

Excellent article by Charles, as usual.

We will be paying the price for this latest act of Congressional stupidity long after she’s gone.

I am not convinced that she is that cunning, but maybe that’s part of her cunning

If the Dems want to do something good in relation to the Armenian genocide, then press for a special section in the National Holocust Museium in Washington D.C. instead of in the House. Better yet, stand up to want is going on now in Dafur.

it really is Bush’s fault.

In one very real sense you are right. Bush needs to call them out on this kind of outrageous, dangerous, meddling behavior. Even the brain-damaged, TV-addled Brittany / Princess Di crowd can see how dangerous this is. I hope.

Between Pelosi’s maneuver and Reid’s Limbaugh letter...we are looking at a bunch of democrats whose group IQ is in the basement.

and it really is Bush’s fault
In a way, it really is Bush's fault. He knows that what Krauthammer wrote here and elsewhere is true. He knows that what conservatives have been saying about the Democrats is true, that their actions really do amount to treason. No hyperbole there. True and literal treason.

And yet, as Commander in Chief, he prefers to make nice with the traitors, rather than publicly take them on.

This treating of traitors with kid gloves ranks up there with the Great Border Failure as the greatest failure of the Bush administration.

Yooou betcha.
This is the last chance for the Dhimocrats to lose the war. They are going to try and make the most of it.
Defeat for the enemy is THEIR DEFEAT and they know it.

Either way, they are dangerous to us and need to go!

Absolutely. This is a unique event in history. Never has a nation, ever, anywhere, tolerated such open-faced, above-board treason as our nation tolerates the Democrat Party of America.

That's because we're fighting a civil war. A "cold" civil war.

“God only knows.”

I don’t agree. There is no way anyone can make a reasonable argument that it was an “unconscious” attempt to sabotage the war effort. She’s been accused publicly by many people of using this device to sabotage the war effort. Even if she’s got other motives for doing it, she’s clearly got to have considered that what she’s doing is going to have that effect, and thus, if she is in fact sabotaging the war effort, it can’t be “unconsciously.”

Pelosi says: "Genocide still exists, and we saw it in Rwanda; we see it now in Darfur." Precisely. And what exactly is she doing about Darfur? Nothing.

I believe resolutions in Congress for Darfur and Rwanda are slated for a vote in 2097...maybe 2098.

Even if stupidity and incompetence were chosen over conspiracy and cunning to explain the actions, it doesn’t mitigate the resulting harm the actions cause.

Call them stupid. Call them traitors. Call them stupid traitors. I don’t care what they are called. I just want their harmful actions stopped.
