Yeah I agree. The solution is not for the Value Voters to go negative with a “If you pick so and so we are going to form a third party” the solution for Value Voters is to say “We are an important organized GOP voting block and we are throwing our considerable influence behind Duncan Hunter because he has, and always will, support our values”.

That would have a positive impact on the process. This demand by people like Dobson for a veto over the selection process without wanting to actually have to do the hard work of winning anything sounds too negative. Too much like an empty threat.

Value Voters have to get behind something, not just be against things. Positives sell, negatives don’t

B4DH!

I'm glad Senator Brownback still attended the Values Voter Summit. Just an FYI on this one. The lefty message boards aren't satisfied that Sen. Brownback dropped out of the race. They are deciding about making him drop out of the Senate. How, I don't know. But their dopey chats seem to be in unison. I'm going to keep an eye on their chats. They may just be tooting their horns.

The only pollers who called me were from the RNC and since they included non-candidates in their poll and left out Duncan Hunter, I told them they would not be included in my budget.

Just look at DH’s message and his record. He has a plan to address all the serious issues, and it’s a pro-American plan. Sun posted an essay yesterday about what the Rinos are doing.

We need to bypass them.

I suggest everyone contact DH’s campaign, get a bunch of postcards, and start distributing them to people, and finding opportunites within your spheres of influence to get him heard.

DH has the message, but alot of powerful people don’t want it heard. I think it is a message that will resonate with conservative dems and Republicans, and maybe even security-minded soccer moms!

I haven’t been called by anyone, though I get lots of mail from various groups wanting money. No one I know has been called, either. So, I pay no attention to the polls and just do what I’m doing to work for Hunter.

Word I heard, do remember where but Brownback is planning to run next go round for governor of state of Kansas. So pulling out now might be about saving those raised $$$$ for his later (years) governor campaign.

Pissant is the reason why I’m supporting Hunter. He was the first one to mention him, I think even had the On The Issues page, I checked it out, and immediately clung to him as my candidate of choice.

Pissant does really good work.

For the record, I did not know Duncan Hunter was running for president until the second debate at St. Anselm’s last summer. What Hunter projects is INTEGRITY.

I was impressed with the little bit he got a chance to say, so I went to his website.

I could not believe I did not know he was running, although I had seen him on the news discussing issues of border security, and trade.

I wanted to know if he was prolife first. I will not even consider a proabort. If a person has no qualms about killing little babies, why should I believe anything else he has to say?

Obviously, I was thrilled to see his consistent prolife record.

So, I started watching for him on C-Span. Never saw him there.

But, a caller mentioned getting his news each day from FR. That was the first time I heard about this site.

FR is a great resource, and we should let friends know about it.

Go, Duncan Hunter!

Your question is a lot better than the usual hits we get from other freepers who keep saying he can’t get past 1% — which, if it were true, would suggest that such freepers are wasting their time & ought to be spending it going after that cross-dressing absurdity in our party.

One thing I saw recently in a post that might address your question is that Duncan supposedly doesn’t have “charm”, which is so important for attracting the “mushy middle”. But I don’t know how to quantify that nor do I value it.

The man has a dry sense of humor. When some democrats were complaining about some issue (I don’t recall which one), and they said the republican majority wasn’t cooperating with them, he put together a whole bunch of files & reports and had them stacked in the conference room where the congressmen were meeting & having a press conference. When one of the democrat congresscritters went into the usual complaint mode, he pointed to the pile and said, “What, isn’t that enough for you?”

"If he was in the news and people heard his name mentioned often, he would be."

I DO hear his remarks, always the correct responses. I don't believe that all the polls are "against" Duncan. There seems to be something "unattractive as a candidate" about DH that I don't see. I DO see plenty unattractive about Guilianni, and he's on top?????

“I think it is a message that will resonate with conservative dems and Republicans, and maybe even security-minded soccer moms!”

Plus, Duncan Hunter will bring manufacturing jobs back to the U.S.A., and everybody would support that.

Duncan Hunter won 14 times in a high minority district, so will attract everyone in the General Election.

"Duncan Hunter is the BEST choice for our nation! "

I agree that of the candidates, DH looks the best, I hope he can gain ground. I have been nominally for Fred, but he is not exactly a flop, he's something of a letdown.

Still say we need John Bolton!

If people would vote with their hearts

Reason #432 the vote of the general citizenry should not affect the Presidential election, even as indirectly as it does. Same reason the Senate should be elected by the State legislatures again. Too many people 'vote with their hearts' and what they 'feel' instead of reading the Constitution and determining which candidate would best fulfill that role and that role alone.

No the citizenry looks to the candidate that promises the most, tells us who he (or she) would attack for 'democracy', and even more sadly who looks the best on television

The 'powers that be' have decided our choices should be Giuliani, McCain, Romney and Thompson w/Huckabee thrown in for spice (& because Huckabee hasn't met an illegal he doesn't feel compassion for)....so he's acceptable!

Every single debate tries to stiff arm Hunter and Tancredo....

..they desperately wish these two men would pull out and go away.

We need to be very scared if this is allowed to happen, IMO.

That does resonate- he just might not, for whatever reason, match the general electorate's preconception of what a president should look like or be like physically. And if that's true, I don't see how it can be overcome or "fixed", especially in the general election.

Yes, you do but you are paying attention. Most people do not.

I will tell you why Duncan Hunter does not appeal to many Republicans.

Border security, ending illegal immigration and reworking our trade deals, especially with China. All these issues would have broad appeal with the mainstream of American voters of all sides, Republican, Democrat and Independent. But it is opposed strenuously by the “power elites” again of both parties, including the MSM. Hard to overcome that kind of cabal. While Hunter has the best interests of the country in his heart, the “Elites” are mainly concerned with their portfolios, the country be damned. That also explains why the money is flowing to the other candidates, the “top tier”. they don’t threaten the status quo. jmo.
