Iraq Progress Leaves Dems In A Quagmire
IBD ^ | October 23, 2007 | Michael Barone

Things are not working out as Democratic congressional leaders expected.

For the first eight months of this year, they struggled to find some way to shut down the American military effort in Iraq.

They took it for granted that we were stuck in a quagmire in Iraq, with continuous high casualties and very little to show for them.

They pressed hard to get the Republican votes they needed to block a filibuster in the Senate and were cheered when some Republicans, like John Warner, seemed to lean their way.

They worked hard over the August recess to pressure Republican House members to break ranks and vote with them.

But the Republicans mostly held fast. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell skillfully parried their thrusts in the Senate. House Minority Leader John Boehner persuaded most House Republicans to hang on. Then, over the summer, the news out of Iraq started to get better.

Mainstream media types tend to think that, while rising casualties from Iraq are legitimate news, falling casualties are not. But even so, the word got out:

Nope, we’re not in 2006 anymore. And more importantly by far, we’re not in 1974 either.

Sorry Vietnam, we could have done so much better. Our young men and women gave it their best, but the puppet masters in Washington, D.C. did too, only for the wrong side.

But wait...all I hear from the MSM is, well...crickets. And the occasional hit piece about how terrible things are.

This war in on the verge of victory just like Vietnam would have been had the B52s continued unabated in 72. North Vietnam was just days away from suing for peace when once again we stopped short. The Democrats and some Republicans lost that war, they wont lose this one.

Do we feel the Democrats' pain?

I tried and I just can't do it. ;-)

Iraq Progress Leaves Dems In A Quagmire. Yes, but think about poor cut and run Paul. If the surge works he will not have any issues left. His only chance is for us to lose, or surrender.

If the surge works? Sorry, but you are way behind. The surge has already worked

I would say it is working. It will still be a while before this war is over.

I believe it is a new counterinsurgency operation. The increase in troops (surge) was but a part of the operation.

I don’t think we ever bombed the capital part of the city either. If I remember accurately, we merely bombed the port area of the capital. Do you remember?

The Dim Congress kept demanding Nixon call a ceasefire. What a bunch of clowns.

Things are turning against the RATS so they will be throwing some red meat of a new, ginned up Republican scandal to the Dinosaur Media soon.

Can you imagine waking up every day and hoping for American deaths and defeat just so you can increase your political power?

My mind boggles.

Well .. the “surge working” and the “war is over” are two separate issues.

As far as I’m concerned .. the WAR WILL NOT BE OVER UNTIL ALL THE RADICAL MUSLIMS ARE DEAD .. that could take awhile.

I can’t help but be proud of my earlier post and want to repeat it.....

I have concluded this morning that the real news, the important historical event that is not being reported, is the Iraqi realization that their real enemy is in America.
To defeat this enemy they simply must not believe the propaganda of the American Left in the government and the MSM.

Al Queda is losing but thier allies Dingy Harry, Princes Nancy and Pinch have lost.
