They’ve been doing so for years now. For example, unions are one of the leading anti war protest organizers in Baltimore. In fact, one such union is represents public employees. Years back (2003 or 2004), I came upon a posting by a guy organizing a protest in Baltimore using his union email address. I called him to ask this very question, he didn’t respond very well.
