Hollywood, CA -- Bella, the pro-life themed movie that has the potential to change hearts and minds on abortion, opened solidly with $1.3 million over the weekend in a limited release in just 31 cities. Though other movies achieved higher gross sales, they needed significantly more theaters to do so. The film stars Eduardo Verastegui as a former soccer player who learns the value of human life and helps a pregnant waitress, played by Tammy Blanchard, appreciate the value of the baby she's carrying.
The number one movie this weekend, according to initial figures, was "Saw IV," a Holloween horror flick that took in $32.1 million. The movie had the highest per theater average of any in the top ten with $10,087 per theater over 3,183 theaters...Bella firmly established itself in second place with $7,784 on average at each of the 167 theaters where it opened this weekend.
That's well ahead of the projections for any of the other movies in the top ten that played at 10-20 times more theaters such as Disneys romantic comedy Dan in Real Life," the horror movie 30 Days of Night...In fact, Bella boasts a higher opening screen average than previous Latin releases this year such as El Cantante which generated $1,993 per theater at 540 cinemas and Ladron que roba el ladron which grossed $1,393 per theater from 340 across the country...
Bella opens in another 12 cities on November 9, including Albuquerque, Des Moines, Durango, Colorado, El Paso, Green Bay, Honolulu, Madison, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Oklahoma City, Pittsburgh and Tucson. The sales figures could prompt its distributor to move to a larger release in the coming weeks.
My wife and I saw it this weekend. I thought the characters were the best developed in any movie I can remember. You “understood” the characters backgrounds and motivations in a deeper way that most other movies. Really a great film.
My niece and nephew saw this on Saturday. They said it was the best movie they had seen in years. They had dinner afterward and talked about the movie for two solid hours. The story had people crying at the end according to my nephew. He said it was “awesome.”
Fandango has a fan review of 4.9 out of 5.0 placing it as their #1 for fan ratings.

Spread the buzz! I hope to see it this week.
Hope "Bella" hits more theaters.
My wife and I saw the movie. Its very different from most Hollywood products today. The plot is very slow because the focus is on the characters and the relationships. I could write for hours on details I enjoyed. For example, the younger brother was hilarious at dinner, and very much reminded me of one of my younger brothers [the one who is still not married].
I also thought Tammy Blanchards performance was outstanding.
She must have been having a bad day.
Knoxville!!!!!!
I think it’s a little more than that.
Poor Barb. She has been in Hollyweird too long. I really DO need to read a book by a faithful Catholic man about a gunslinger who put .45 slugs through people. Just like Tony Soprano...he was a good Catholic too...no?
My nephew is someone who has strong tastes in film that mirror mine. He also has a wife, three children and a strong family life. I think THAT is why he loved the movie...
F
Bella Bump!
I took my two daughters and a friend to see it and we were so moved - it was truly inspiring and emotionally moving!

BELLA THE MOVIE DONT MISS IT!! - The producers of bella struggled for a long time to find a distributor for their beautiful film about love, life, devotion, sacrifice, family and friendship. A distributor was finally secured with the stipulation that it would release it in just 31 cities and 165 theaters. If the film has exceptional box office sales during a two-week period, they would spend the millions of dollars necessary to distribute it nationwide.
bella opened on Friday, October 26th and has succeeded beyond the major players expectations, reports LifeNews.com (10/31/07). It had the second-highest per-theater sales last weekend as it took in $1.3 million and about $8,000 per venue.
