No, that looks like a Brittany Spaniel, the "vest pocket hunting dog". They're much smaller than any of the Pointers - that dog doesn't come half way up to the handler's knees. They can be real sweet dogs and good hunters if you get the right bloodline, but like many spaniels they're both soft and hard-headed, so it takes a little finesse to train them.

Here's a German Shorthaired Pointer:

The BBC is reporting this and quoting AFP (presumably Agence France Presse). I’m not questioning the newsworthiness of the piece but why are these entities getting involved? My guess is that it’s to show “those dumb Americans and their guns” i.e. fits a certain agenda.

If this was in the Des Moines Register - I wouldn’t have looked twice. But the BBC? AFP?
