Sen. Hillary Rodham Clintons (D-N.Y.) top advisers, doing damage control after the candidates debate performance Tuesday, told supporters on a conference call Wednesday that the campaign needed more money to fight back.
Mark Penn, Clintons senior strategist and pollster, and Jonathan Mantz, the campaigns finance director, told the supporters on the call, which The Hill listened to in its entirety, that they expect attacks from Clintons rivals to continue, and she will need the financial resources to deflect their attacks.
Clinton came under withering assault in the Philadelphia debate, and some supporters on the call agreed with analysts that she stumbled.
I wouldnt say she lost her cool, one caller said. But I would say she lost her footing.
The caller addded that Clintons response to questions about records from her time in the White House that have been sealed by the National Archives made me roll my eyes.
The criticisms followed Penns assertion that Clinton was unflappable. He also said criticisms from Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) and former Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.) would backfire and that he was already detecting some backlash, particularly among female voters.
Those female voters are saying, Sen. Clinton needs our support now more than ever if were going to see this six-on-one to try to bring her down, Penn told those on the campaign call.
He, Mantz and several supporters hinted repeatedly on the call that Clinton was unfairly targeted by Tim Russert, debate moderator and host of NBCs Meet the Press.
Russert made it appear that President Clinton had done something new or unusual, Penn said, before adding that it is, in fact, an extremely confusing situation
I think there will be further clarification.

Count me on board. LOL
Well, when all you have is a hammer everything starts to look like a nail.
I made the following comment on a thread that is now locked because it is a repeat. Please excuse me but I confused Russert with Bob Beckal.(sp) Russert is still a toad even if he did ask Clinton a question that caused her trouble.
Several years ago, Russert was a co-host of a radio program with Pat Buchanan. He made a telling comment one day. (paraphrase)My father was a union organizer. When it comes to the spotted owl,he would have said, get the out chainsaws.
It was clear he supported the idea.
Since he has put his addiction behind, he is again able to reflect some of the clear thinking his father expressed.
Oh, please.
They did. I think they were unprepared for a serious goof on her part and were caught flatfooted as the moment came and went. They won't let that happen again though, and they have two more debates to go before Iowa.
Further this story reminds me of the high school girl who wanted to play football with the boys and when she finally got in the game a male from the opposing side cracked her ribs on the first play. As a result the family tried to sue the school. What do women expect, a free ride.
Are you kidding with this?
Hear,hear!
Following the 1990 election, Richards showed her true leftie colors, joining with environmentalists to use supposedly endangered species in preventing ranchers from using their properties. In addition she created an auto emissions inspection program and sole-sourced it to an incompetent minority/woman-owned firm and that really incensed the auto-driving public.
Thank you for your kind words..
If she can’t handle six metrosexual Democratic candidates, how is she going to handle the real dangerous men in the world as President. That thought scares the crap out of me and should do the same to everyone else in this country. She ain’t qualified, period!
Actually I think it is a whole lot worse than that. She was running against G. Bush/wrong, and she just came apart on a clear yes/no issue like Dl for illegal aliens, and then 12 hours later she came down against USA on that. And that is not to mention her histrionics.
Timing is pretty good too, the Dims will have to cover for her since all their other candidates are just as bad!
There are plenty of opportunity's for Gore or another to enter the race.
