That’s great!
I don’t have much on the subject....I do believe that slavery was a necessary element in the foundation of the US. Without it, the South would not have approved the Constitution.
I think it goes to the core of why public schools no longer focus on American History.
If they did, the students would learn which political party was heavily invested in maintaining slavery. They’d know which party nominated a candidate in the 1864 election against Lincoln, on a ‘peace platform’ that allowed for slavery to continue in the South, and would negotiate a settlement to the war that would allow the Confederacy to break away from the Union.
They’d know which party blocked Civil Rights legislation. They’d know which party voted for a Senate Majority Leader in the 1960’s that used to not only wear a hood and sheet while dancing around a burning cross, but was also one of its most renowned recruiters for the KKK.
They’d learn who authorized domestic spying on Martin Luther King.
I’m with you, subterfuge. I have yet to meet a Republican who is pro slavery, segregation, Jim Crow, or the KKK. Maybe they’re out there, but I have never met one.
That was a difficult compromise in the fundamental nature of the American promise, to be sure!
They can run, but they can’t hide forever!
So far they have.
Get over the past. Man is desperately wicked, and there is none righteous - so its no surprise that wickedness has occurred in the past and occurs in the present. There is only peace and freedom in Christ - not in man.
Rather than bemoaning the ills of the past, these folks out to strive to stamp out the slavery of today. Go beat on the Africans and Arabs who enslave folks in the Sudan and other places in that region. Go stamp out tyrannies such as that goon in North Korea who enslaves his entire country.
And if they really want to spread freedom -- preach Christ...
Oh, but Muleteam1 says they’re right here on FR!
Children can be so damn mean. How'd you like to be the "wrong" girl who only wants to go to school and have friends, just like everybody else?
another keeper....
Gee, my public school teachers left out quite a bit...
And if you can find where I wrote "racist Freepers", I would like you to substantiate that as well.
What I had tried to imply was that conservatism, as defined by some fiscal conservatives here at FR, has little to do with morals. I call these people "50% conservatives." They are half right.
Regarding my comment about the Democratic Party, there was indeed a thread just two days ago on FR with posters bemoaning the loss of their Democratic Party to the left. Sorry but I don't know what the subject was and have not been able to find it again.
