Pelosi says Democrats plan "repetition of the same" on Iraq
By MIKE BAKER
Associated Press Writer
November 02. 2007 4:22PM

RALEIGH, N.C. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, approaching the first anniversary of an election that lifted her party into power based largely on its opposition to the war in Iraq, said Friday that Democrats will renew efforts to end the conflict with "a repetition of the same."

Speaking at Meredith College, Pelosi said Democrats in the House will file a new proposal next week that would seek to withdraw combat troops by the end of 2008. It would restrict war funding after that date to pay only for embassy protection, targeted counterterrorism efforts and the limited training of Iraqi forces.

But Pelosi conceded later that the measure would mimic unsuccessful attempts of the past year to reduce America's involvement in the war, and she gave no indication that she thinks the new attempt will succeed.

"You won't see a lot that is new," Pelosi said. "It's just a repetition of the same."

Pelosi said that while she has been disappointed by Congress' failed attempts to end the war, she would not support an effort to withhold all war funding. Some money is needed to provide for U.S. troops overseas, she said.

"We'll still persist in trying to force a new direction," Pelosi said.

Standing above and below a banner reading, "A New Direction," Pelosi said Democrats hope to get the proposal to President Bush's desk before Thanksgiving. Bush has consistently rebuffed such efforts, and even if the measure were to pass both the House and Senate, it's unlikely Democrats would have enough votes to override a sure veto.

Democrats took control of both chambers of Congress last November in an election seen largely as a referendum on the White House's war policy.

On Friday, the audience at the all-women's school in Raleigh questioned why Pelosi hadn't done more to end the war and hadn't made an effort to impeach Bush for his handling of the conflict.

And while she responded by citing the enormous costs - in money, lives and Middle East instability - she only assured the audience of continued efforts to oppose Bush, not necessarily results. Later, the veteran lawmaker from California seemed to suggest that congressional Democrats do not have the power to change the war's direction until the next president takes office after the 2008 election.

"This is what elections are about," Pelosi said. "We didn't go in having the signature or veto pen that he has. We hoped he would listen to representatives and the thinking of the American people. He refuses to (do that)."

Along with calling voters to the polls, the speaker also implored the female students to take up leadership roles, talking with them in a private meeting about running for elected office. Pelosi became the highest-ranked elected female in U.S. history because of last year's election.

"There's real need for women to be more involved in everything," she told the overflow audience of about 1,000. "Nothing is more wholesome than the increased participation and leadership of women who make a difference."

Pelosi says Democrats plan "repetition of the same" on Iraq

Let's hope so. She's got that white knuckle grip on her 11% approval rating.

Let's do a little MSM-style selective editing:

Standing above and below a banner reading, "A New Direction," Pelosi said:...."You won't see a lot that is new," Pelosi said. "It's just a repetition of the same."

That's too bad Nancy, you should ALWAYS change a LOSING game plan.

The Democrats are invested in defeat. They keep pushing a measure that has no chance of making it to the President's desk. And here we all thought the GOP was the Stupid Party. Wah!

The ‘Rats are desperate to try and find a way to save their al Qaeda allies in Iraq.

Maybe they’ll try a fundraiser with Yellow Jack Murtha in a burqa for the next edition of ‘PlayJihadist’.

Then why waste everybody's time, Nancy, you arrogant, cowardly, leftist, anti-American, brainless piece of trash?

They were elected because the pubbies disappointed enough of their base and sympathetic libertarians to need a strong lesson. Not because of “The War”. I think they heard it loud and clear. I hope the folks see the difference between the parties now and can dampen that sense of betrayal allowing them to make good choices going forward.

What's that definition of stupid? Doing that same thing over and over and expecting a different result?

Bella, you're an idiot!

“Later, the veteran lawmaker from California seemed to suggest that congressional Democrats do not have the power to change the war’s direction until the next president takes office after the 2008 election. “

And how ar ethe Democrats going to change the direction when Thompson is President and there is a republican congress back in power?

I wonder what the minority leader will say then? However what will be great is watching Rangel pack up and leave his office.

“... an election that lifted her party into power based largely on its opposition to the war in Iraq... “
as long as the ratmedia continues to tell the rat this, he will continue to be swayed by his anti American scumbag base. They have tried to surrender almost 60 times. They have gotten nothing for their efforts but an 11% approval rating. As long as we can hold together and turn these white flag maggots away, this is a good thing.
Keep telling the rat he got elected to end the war lughead, please do.

The Democrats should change their course. Numbers are looking better in Iraq and Americans do not like to loose.

I’m sure she’ll be just as effective as the news of our success there finally leaks out. Perhaps even she’ll realize she was wrong.
