Rove says temporary worker program needed

ODESSA, Texas (AP) - President Bush's former deputy chief of staff, Karl Rove, says the government will need a temporary worker program to be successful with immigration reform.

Rove said the program is needed reduce pressure on the nation's border security apparatus. But he says the details of such a program haven't been explained to the American public well.

He also says the U.S. Border Patrol will need to be doubled and its budget tripled with 300 miles of fence built.

The comments came yesterday as part of the John Ben Shepperd Public Leadership Institute's Distinguished Lecture Series at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in Odessa.

About the 2008 presidential race, Rove said he favored the Republican nominee but said Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton could have a chance of winning because she has "a machine around her."

Or, at a minimum, de-sexed.

Rove does seem to have arrived at a point of terminal stupidity where he is of no political use to anybody. Best he not reproduce.

What you need is to get hit by an illegal alien that runs a red light drunk. Get stared at by people that look like they want to kill you while you are just passing through. That’s what you need, buddy.

You apparantly have never heard of technological and scientific progress.

We are long past the time when we need a vast army of peasants chopping the fields with handheld hoes (for example), and have pretty much replaced them with the harrow and other cultivators pulled by tractors over the last hundred years.

An "amnesty plan" that focused on bringing in millions of such peasants was doomed to failure.

Only someone totally ignorant of technology could have thought it up.

In the absence of sufficient people to do a job we will mechanize it, automate it, and roboticize it ~ to the degree possible given current costs and the availability of technology.

Japan is now engaged in such a process ~ as are we ~ and the 38 million illegal aliens and undocumented tourists you've let in are surplus to our needs.

Time for them to go back home and for you to take evening classes at Purdue University.

I agree a temp program is needed, but it needs to be a tightly controlled process with absolutely no possibility of remaining, no amnesty, no extensions. I like the following ideas:

1. Some type of private employment agency with ICE oversight to screen potential workers. (agency located on border or in Mexico, Haiti or D.R)
2. Potential employers submit requisitions for needs to include skills required (if any), wages and benefits to be paid, and length of temporary job for which the worker is needed.
3. Employers then take official responsibility of the temp worker until his/her return assuring ICE they will supply transportation, medical treatment as needed, and sufficient wages for the workers’ subsistence.

Just some thoughts
3.

With all due respect Mr. Rove government farmers can hire at their own expense the pickers or those gated communities can pay their servants worthy of their hire. Personally I am not interested in setting up once again the personification of slave labor, you rich republicans pony up.

Hey Rove, you are like a bad dream and I just want you to go away! Obviously you are too stupid to understand that Americans are not fooled by your globalist lies. You have sold America out just like your good buddy Jorge Boosh!

Rove said the program is needed reduce pressure on the nation's border security apparatus.

Wrong answer.

It's all about flooding the labor market to further devalue the valuablness of the American citizen's laobr so that Rove's friends get richer while the working class American citizens get poorer.

“But he says the details of such a program haven’t been explained to the American public well.”

Rove flat out lying again. He knew all so well that explaining his immigration plots would be anathema to their passage. Stealth and deployment of liberal outrage to distract attention were the only tools that gave the bill a shot.

1) We do not and are not going to have enough working age US citizens to do all the work that needs doing. Too few workers will cut growth and America will lose its economic dominance in the world.

Give me examples of some of this "work that needs doing" that we won't have laborers for?

There are hundreds of millions of potential workers in the US right now. All working Americans are potential hires for any new job opening. Should all businesses and jobs be feasible in the US? If I want to build the world's largest hand-made Persian rug manufacturing business right here in the USA, should the government see to it that this is made a feasible venture for me?

As for "cut growth", who exactly benefits from the government's "growth" and how? And that is what we are talking about, right? What else grows besides government? And it's not national defense and security that grows with the growth...they just can't seem to find the money to build that "expensive" little fence on the border, even with all our "growth".

Hey Rove. We have already got 20 million illegals here. Remember those are the ones who started in the ag business doing jobs americans won’t do. Then they moved up the food chain...taking jobs americans would do.

Instead of deporting 20 m illion, why don’t u give them a choice. Go back to the ag business or go back to Metico. That would solve the labor shortage

“There are hundreds of millions of potential workers in the US right now...” may be, but they are mostly illegal aliens.

The unemployment rate is 4.7%. Generally speaking five percent unemployment is considered full national employment as there are always about 5% unable or unwilling to work,

Therefore a temporary program is needed.

“We already have temporary worker programs, which have several million working in”

Actually we have about 20 million illegals already here. They just moved up the food chain doing jobs americans WILL DO.

Send the 20 million back to the ag business or send them packing

It should be part of being a legal immigrant.

A legal immigrant doesn't sneak across the border in the dead of night, but passes through US Immigration with a valid passport and a visa issued by the USA that allows them entry. The visa would also identify whether the person is allowed to work while in the USA and would clearly define the valid length of stay.

That's how it in every country I travel to, and the way it should be here.

Therefore a temporary program is needed.

"Needed" by whom? We are talking about plantation owners importing labor for the plantation owner's benefit, aren't we?

If there was a true labor shortage, wages wouldn't be stagnant or decreasing in the sectors where the supposed shortages are occurring.
