Hillary's in trouble
The Toledo Blade ^ | November 3, 2007 | Jack Kelly

SEN. Hillary Rodham Clinton apparently has hit a speed bump on the way to her coronation.

If Mrs. Clinton is to prevail in the general election she must, as in the primaries, divide to rule. She may get help from petulant conservatives. The polls make it clear that Mr. Giuliani is the Republican most likely to beat Mrs. Clinton. But his nomination could spark three splinter candidacies on the right.

The first could be by a pro-life candidate who is offended by Mr. Giuliani's pro-choice views on abortion. This would be a clear case of cutting off one's nose to spite one's face. The issue of abortion will be settled in the courts. The next president likely will appoint two, and perhaps as many as four, Supreme Court justices. Mr. Giuliani has said he'll appoint judges like Chief Justice John Roberts and Samuel Alito. Mrs. Clinton will appoint judges who will make sure Roe vs. Wade is the law of the land forever.

The second could be an immigration restrictionist. Mr. Giuliani might be the strongest of the Republicans on border security, but his views about illegals who just came here to work are too kind for some.

The third - and the most likely - is that Ron Paul will run on the Libertarian ticket. This should help Republicans, because most of the votes Mr. Paul likely would get would come from moonbats apoplectic about recent successes in Iraq. They are angry with Mrs. Clinton for suggesting she wouldn't withdraw all troops immediately upon taking the oath of office.

A Paul candidacy excepted, the arithmetic of the 2008 election is clear. In a two-candidate race, the Republican wins, especially if the Republican is named Giuliani. In a multiple candidate race, Mrs. Clinton wins.

Maybe the best thing we can do is to hold our collective noses really hard, and send money to Obama.

The best thing we can do is to defeat Rudy in the primary.

Defeat Rudy in the primary is right.

It worked for Billy Boy. Ross Perot gladly stepped in to split the Repub vote and hand the election to the most immoral President in the history of our republic.

10-1 Ron Paul does enter the race, split the ticket and give us Hillary.

Well, I guess I'll just have to learn to breathe through my ears then, because there's no way I'm voting for Rudy.

Rudy's nominated = 3rd party

The Rudy boosters are really out in force today. They believe that if they keep on saying he is the most electable then he must be the most electable. Sorry, but that is opposite of the truth....he is the least electable and must be defeated in the primaries.

And even if he did beat the beast, the GOP still loses having been driven so far left there is essentially no difference between dems and pubbies. Rudy is bad news all around and should go down like socks on a chicken.

‘Mr. Giuliani might be the strongest of the Republicans on border security’

Good one.

This is Rudy's game plan. The Democrats are just going to sit back and let nature runs it course.

Never. When I see Edwards, I see a slimey car salesman. Yuck. You just know that if he shakes your hand it’s going to be sweaty and cold. No heart, just hair.

Somebody says she is in trouble and somebody else says she has the election in the bag. She has a year for everyone to forget her latest gaff and there are so many Americans who do not seem to mind having a corrupt immoral person in the white house.

INHO there should be no campaigning two years out. One year is enough time to campaign. By the time people get ready to vote they end up voting they are so burned out by it all a lot don´t even bother.

You’re supporting his thesis, which I took to be a leftist SOS call.I don’t think Rudy will be the nominee, in any event.

NY state went through this back in 2000 when the CW was that he’d beat her out of the Senate senate, but that showdown never happened.

I have no stomach for a Gullianni presidency. If that’s what the Republican party has come to then I guess I’ll give up on them.

10-1 Ron Paul does enter the race, split the ticket and give us Hillary.

5-1 you're injecting heroin. Paul has stated a million times he has no intentions on a 3rd party or independent run, not even if Fruity is nominated.

If Rudy is nominated, there WILL be a 3rd party candidate, so it's imperative to take Rudy out in the primaries.

Rudy's nominated = 3 party - LA-LA-LA-LA I don't care if Hillary wins LA-LA-LA-LA

Utter nonsense! Any significant third party showing will take away from the Republican ticket and hand the race to the Democrats. Just as Ross Perot did...twice!
