“Fred Thompson is a Barry Goldwater movement conservative. After reading Barry Goldwater’s “Conscience of a Conservative” in 1963, he promptly became the first Republican in his family.
Sen. Goldwater’s book made quite the impression on young Fred Thompson. Bill Kirkland, who studied law with Thompson recalled:

“He was a very conservative Republican even then. He was a huge supporter of Barry Goldwater in the 1964 presidential election.”
Though he was a reliable conservative as a Senator, Thompson was also a Federalist. Fred’s devotion to the principles laid down by founder James Madison would occasionally distinguish him from the pack. Michael D. Tanner of the Cato Institute observes: “

I can’t wait until they start focusing in on the phrase “B actor.”

Maybe the New York Times is so close to bankruptcy that they can't hire any good writers...

Or maybe the writers (alleged reporters) are too busy getting their resumes updated so that when the Gray Lady collapses, they will have at least been on the job market for some time.

I think the New York Times debt has reached a junk bond ratings because of the collapse of the stock price...

I’m sure one of their vaunted “reporters”, while zoned out in a pot induced haze, saw his name in the credits after a Law and Order rerun, and shrieked, “EUREKA! What a scoop! This will save our moribund paper/ piece of asswipe from certain bankruptcy! Pinch Sulzberger himself will make me editor-in-chief!”

Reminds me of one of my favorite movie scenes from the film “My Favorite Year” where Peter O’Toole, playing leading man Peter Swan, tries to crash a party in an upscale New York high-rise my diving off the roof while holding onto the fire hose and overshoots his landing so he is left to dangle below.

Overheard are two men on the balcony at the party as you watch Swan hanging over the side.

A: Do you remember that actor from that movie?

B: What movie is that?

A: You know, that swashbuckling movie. “Pirates of the High Seas”.

B: Oh, you mean Peter Swan.

A: Yes! Well, I think Peter Swan is beneath us.

B: Well, of course he’s beneath us! He’s an actor...

Yea...and Ronald Regan was an actor and made no real contribution to our Nation.

I remember when Reagan first ran for President. I wasn't old enough to vote but I remember all the chuckles from the adults about the B movie actor.

Boy, didn't he surprise us all!!!
