LONDON Disputes over mosques have broken out across Europe. Residents from Belgium to France to Germany have expressed unease at minarets competing in the urban landscape with the spires and stones of centuries-old cathedrals.
But the fight raging over an abandoned lot in Londons East End is of an altogether grander scale. A large and secretive Islamic sect proposed building what would have been the largest mosque in Europe, smack at the gateway to the 2012 Olympic Games, and within sight of Londons financial district.
That plan was sent back to the drawing board to be scaled down, but not before raising a furor of equal size and discomforting questions about the right of Britains Muslims to take up a public space commensurate with their growing numbers.
This summer on the Web site of Prime Minister Gordon Brown, more than 250,000 critics of the proposed mosque supported a petition initiated...
In Newham, the borough where the mosque would stand, Alan Craig, the leader of the Christian Peoples Alliance Party in the East End, started a one-man campaign against the mosque a year ago that has grown and gained national prominence...But now he focuses on its sponsor, Tablighi Jamaat, a worldwide evangelical Islamic group based in Pakistan with millions of followers that professes to encourage Muslims to be more loyal to their faith.
American and European law enforcement officials say Tablighi Jamaats simple message masks a fertile recruiting ground for terrorists. Two of the suicide bombers who attacked the London transit system in July 2005 had attended Tablighi Jamaat gatherings, British security officials said...
Mr. Craig said...They refer to us as kafir, a term of contempt, he added. Thats not what we need. We dont want this mosque in East London. It will be disastrous....

“Battle Rages in London Over a Mega-Mosque Plan”
Who will say “No” when they know their heads (and those of their family
and friends) will probably get sawed off to the sound of “Alluha Ackbar!!!!!!”
btt
Because of our concerns dealing with security, we were called bigots, racists, un-American, un-Christian, by name in the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post. The local newspapers were even worse.
I hope that in some small way our efforts are what help the FBI keep the school from being built. There were to be 100 more school buses on the already overcrowded roads.
As I understand it, the Saudis bought cheap (thanks to the Loudoun County Board Members) and sold high.
One American representing the Saudis got up and said, (and I kid you not), "The citizens of Loudoun County do not have the right to tell the Saudi government what they can or can't do in this country," to which my husband got up and said, "George Washington, George Mason and Thomas Jefferson must be rolling in their graves!"
Another report from Britain read "We will replace the Bible with the Koran." And they aren't kidding. Today, washbasins are being provided at airports and universities for Muslims to be able to wash their feet before praying. Muslim students are provided prayer rooms in schools for the entire month of Ramadan while our children cannot bend their head to say a prayer over their lunches, or a teacher breaks a child's pencil because it is inscribed with "Jesus is Lord." Christmas plays have all but disappeared while even the colors of red and green have been banned. What happened to Separation of Church and state unless it doesn't apply to Islam.
It appears that Mohammed is in and Christ is out.
accidentally spill some pig blood on the site and then they won’t want to build there anymore.
Pigs are great.
Heck, why not just use "the whole hog"?
Cut a couple loose to prepare the soil, cultivate and fertilize the construction site.
Expel them and you’ll be all right.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, with the exception of the political entity by the name of Islam or any variant that worships Allah or his false prophet Mohammed; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Interesting questions.
Isn't this exactly what the British government is already doing now?
There ‘ya go!
never underestimate the power of the pig.
so you think Mosques in England should be like embassies, above the law, simply because england allows foreign countries to set up embassies? Interesting. of course you realize that England also has embassies in the US and scattered all over the world in other countries, but no Muslim country allows churches to be set up and declare themselves not in the country.
Ah I knew that would come up. The madrasses-mosques that preach hate , rebellion and jihadism could be closed under the RICO law and could also be closed because they no longer qualify as a purely religious worship center but a political terrorist center. There are nutty religious (really political-terrorist groups)a that are put in jail or raided for criminal activities all the time.
No, I was just having fun pointing out that what the other poster said didn't make sense.
A mosque is a weapons depot with minarets.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"
That's gonna be a tough one to get around without changing the Constitution.
No, actually the laws are already on the books as I avered to you in the other post. It just takes guts to enforce them. Sort of like all those laws against illegal immigration that no one get around to enforce or capital punishment with nearly 5000 on death row. If one enforced the law now, all 5000 would be gone, the borders would be closed and illegals in gang syndicates would be arrested and oh yes, Islamic terrorist orgs. would be closed too. We just do not have the will to do it on any of these items. The laws are already there Doe Eyes. BTW, why the handle? I like it.
Soccer Hooligans VS Mega Mosques, SKY Sports TV, 10pm...
The Mosque may have a good defence, but man are the hooligans offensive...
