Dear Matthew,
Many of you know that Chris supports the Global War on Terror and the War in Iraq. Chris is also a Republican of conviction who will support and work for and with the Republican nominee for U.S President that Republican primary voters select.
What you may not know is that our opponent, the incumbent congressman, does not support the war and has stated publicly that he is not even sure that he will support the Republican nominee for US President.
The following is an excerpt from an article written by U.S. writer Jeremy Lott and published by the Guardian newspaper in London highlighting the critical difference between Chris Peden and Ron Paul.
Although Mr. Lott's libertarian leanings are showing (we never said that libertarians or Ron Paul are "crazy-eyed"), the rest of the article reinforces the point that a vote for Chris Peden is a vote for a safer, stronger, more united America and a vote for our opponent is not.
"Except for the supposed anti-war firebrand Texas representative Ron Paul, Republican candidates who had raised any skepticism about Iraq have dropped out of the [Presidential] race.
Now, Republican activists are backing serious primary challenges to [U.S.] Representatives Wayne Gilchrist of Maryland, Walter Jones of North Carolina, and, yes, Ron Paul.
Many Republicans concede that Ron Paul has a large, passionate following but they insist that these voters should be irrelevant because they are "not Republicans." Why not? The website of Paul's primary challenger, Texas councilman Chris Peden, puts the case well. Peden refers to himself as a "proven conservative Republican," while his opponent is a crazy-eyed "libertarian."
Never mind that Paul has served ten terms in the House of Representatives as a Republican. The point is that Peden "support[s] winning the Global War on Terror; [Paul] has voted against the war." Whereas Peden holds "Islamofascist terrorists ... responsible for the 9/11 attacks; [Paul] thinks America's Middle East policies were responsible for the attacks."
In making his pitch to the rank-and-file Republicans, Paul has stressed that there is a moderate tradition within the GOP that prizes peace as an ideal, even if peace isn't always achievable.
What the Party is trying to say with primary challenges to Paul and the few remaining anti-war Republicans is: we don't want to hear about it." Onzelo Markum III Political Director Peden for Congress

Chris Peden’s challenge is also hit the MSM-

But isn’t L Ron Paul a “public trough gifter”? Doesn’t he bestow a cornucopia of trough benefits to his district, through LIBERAL (in both senses of the word) earmarks?
It’s hard to defeat a Big Gifter. People like to keep that trough-cash flowing.
How sweet would that be for the swelled-headed Paul to get knocked off his Congressional perch during his absurdist Prez run.
Ron Paul should do a Hitlery, and carpetbag his surrender monkey @ss to the North East somewhere (sorry NE Freepers).
Otherwise, I don't have strong opinions about Prawned Paul. :)
>> Prawned Paul
Subtle, and yet, truthful and brutal. I like it.
You are right, he does play his little wink wink games with earmarks where he can claim in words to be against them but at the same time, put them on bills to ensure they are pushed through.
He has been establishment in DC long enough, he knows how to play the game.
>> Doesnt he bestow a cornucopia of trough benefits to his district, through LIBERAL (in both senses of the word) earmarks?
That’s a good question. I’ll have to ask the folks I know from his district.
In my humble opinion the 14th emcompasses quite a bit of “rugged individualist” territory, but I know it also includes some slacker areas tending towards the libertine (fishing/resort communities).
I hope you’re right. I just remember the effort to unseat that traitor Murtha in ‘06. We had high hopes for that, and those hopes were dashed.
So sure, I hope Peden will win, and I might even send him some money (though he’s far away from me), but I’m a little leary about having high hopes. These big-spending traitors seem to be a particularly tenacious breed of leech, very difficult to dislodge from their home district.
and has stated publicly that he is not even sure that he will support the Republican nominee for US President.
.
Guessing about 70% to 80% of Paul supporters will vote Democrat too.
I don’t regret sending her money, though, like Peden, she was far from my home district. I’m just voicing some disappointment she didn’t win, that’s all.
QUESTIONER: "Congressman, if you were not running, right now, for office, is there a current candidate that you would identify with most and who would you vote for yourself?"
RP: "... there's been some that hinted that they might run... that's Chuck Hagel... I don't know a lot about his other programs, but because foreign policy to me is so important"
"... on the Democratic side, it just happens that Dennis Kucinich is a good friend of mine"
Ditto on both accounts.
Striking a blow against murtha by sending Ms. Irey a few bucks was satisfying, even if ineffectual. I strongly dislike ElRon and I want him out of federal office. But I utterly thoroughly despise murtha.
I personally think Chris Peden has a much better chance against ElRon than Diane Irey had against murtha.
It has that certain, 'ying/yang' quality to it.
I guess being a "groin-o-cologist" (stolen from Archie Bunker) has it's financial benifits too.
