LT GENERAL Hal Moore Joins Operation Gratitude Volunteers on December 1, 2007!
Operation Gratitude ^ | 10/30/2007 | Carolyn Blashek

Operation Gratitude is delighted to announce that a very special American, Lt. Gen. Hal Moore (Ret.), will join Operation Gratitude Volunteers at the National Guard Armory in Van Nuys, CA on Saturday, December 1 to assemble thousands of Care Packages to be shipped to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan for the Holidays. Lt. Gen. Moore, a legendary Military leader, who co-authored the NY Times #1 best-seller We Were Soldiers Once...and Young, will also be our special guest speaker during our lunch-break starting at Noon.

As a very special gift to be included in every Holiday Care Package, General Moore, through the generosity of Wild Goose Ministries in Vail, Co., has donated 70,000 copies of his most recent inner story, "A General's Spiritual Journey." This beautiful work represents Hal Moore's faith-filled journey from childhood to the battlefield and into his golden years, as told to, and memorialized by, his friend and "Driver."

Special ping...:)

"I hope every American has the opportunity to reflect on Hal Moore's life experiences and guidance. There is much for all of us to learn from this great American leader and patriot," said Carolyn Blashek, founder of Operation Gratitude. "I was deeply touched by "A General's Spiritual Journey," she continued. "After reading his Journey, I asked Gen. Moore if we could obtain 70,000 copies to include in our Holiday Care Packages, so that our troops currently deployed would have the privilege and benefit of his wisdom and faith. General Moore immediately enlisted the kindness of Wild Goose Ministries and its president, Pat McConathy, to ensure that every service member receiving an Operation Gratitude care package would also receive a copy of his Journey. I am thrilled--it is a MUST READ!"

Lt. General Harold G. Moore (Ret.) graduated from West Point in 1945, commanded two infantry companies in the Korean War, was a battalion and brigade commander in Vietnam, and later commanded the 7th Infantry Division in Korea. A master parachutist and Army aviator, he helped develop and launch the concept of the Air Cavalry in Vietnam. General Moore co-authored with Joe Galloway the NY Times #1 best-seller, We Were Soldiers Once ... and Young, the dramatic and moving account of the 7th Cavalry's epic action in the Ia Drang Valley in 1965, one of the Vietnam War's bloodiest battles. The book was brought to the Big Screen by Director Randall Wallace in 2002 starring Mel Gibson (as General Moore), Sam Elliot and Madeleine Stowe, and has been hailed as "one of the greatest war movies ever made." Gen. Moore and Galloway's second book, We Are Soldiers... Still, will be published and released in 2008. At 85 years young, Lt. General Moore is one of America's most sought after speakers on leadership and is founder of The National Endowment for the Public Trust.

From Kelly Hill to Ahn Ke (Camp Radcliff) to Ia Drang to NVA Route 60 and the Plei Trap Valley. A journey for one who has traveled it will never be forgotten. LTG Moore’s wife who played such a big role back at Fort Benning organizing the wives of 1st Cav soldiers was buried not too long ago at the Benning cemetary. God bless LTG Moore and Mrs. Moore.

CSM Plumley used to come out and address some of the graduating classes at the Infantry School. Don’t know if he still does because he has to be really getting up there in years. He was a WW II and Korean Vet before he ever went to RVN. Last I heard about him being at Benning was 2001 or 2002. Anybody out there have an update about him?

That's the place in the story where I always crack up, when Mrs. Moore finds out what's going on and decided to deliver telegrams herself.

I’ll never forget how wonderful it was for us to receive Christmas care packages and cards from folks that cared enough to bring a smile to our faces. La Enchiladita, tell me where I can contribute to this wonderful effort. Thanks darlin’.

She passed a few years ago, and she was every bit as beloved as her husband.

God Bless them both.

Amen to that. My understanding is that it was through Mrs. Moore’s efforts that DOD changed the family notification system to the personal visit system used today from the old telegram policy.

Yep, but Casualty Notification was still FUBAR’d even in GWI in 1991.

Reports were processed quickly, but word of mouth would still outpace the notification chain.
