"This isn't about tickets,. but having the public participate in a wood smoke reduction strategy to protect public health," said Karen Schkolnick, a spokeswoman for the Bay Area Air Quality Management District.
It's great to see that the controllers are being consistent. I am just amazed that the word voluntary isn't used more throughout. That's the way these things always begin...
Think seat belts... second hand smoke...
Fortunately, cheating is out of the question. I can see a whistleblower hotlineline being well used after spotting the tell-tale smoke.
Yeh, OK, then as a punishment for the tickets they will have community service.
Right?
Here in the California Central Valley, it's been a fact more or less for at least 30 years. In my neighborhood, half the homes built as long ago as 1974 do not have fireplaces.
What town/state would that be?
>>If my friends in the health care professions are correct, anal intercourse carries with it a much greater health risk than wood-burning fireplaces.<<
ROFL!
I dont think they will move to ban that.
Bakersfield CA. San Joaquin Valley Air District.
If they did that here I’d put a space heater in the fireplace just to mess with them.
Make them stop! All that smoke comes into the Central Valley and stays trapped in the natural inversion for the winter! Make the Bay people stop carbon polluting!
This has been going on here in Fresno,ca (central valley) for some time now.
Makes sense huh? Energy prices skyrocket, utility companies cry conserve, conserve, but dont dare burn wood for heat.
In another article, the forest service cant find enough loggers to cut and haul away trees out of the forest due to the enviro’s destroying that industry, and here now we cant burn the wood.

***Well said. It’s an idiotic drain circling approach. I’m pinging Eric Blair for the Nanny State ping list if he thinks this one makes sense to put up.
gilster, this is right up your alley. It’s what you’ve been saying all along.
BBQ’s are next...or have they already outlawed them too?
So true Eric, These regulations will sweep through the country.
There are Health Boards across the country already banning Outdoor Wood Boilers. More and more Health Boards will start banning Fireplaces, Wood stoves and patio firepits. They will do it by town and by county, much like the smoking bans.
And after they are done with the above, don’t think your BBQ will be safe either.
With Oil already at $3.00 a gallon, my pellet stove will run 24 hours a day on cold days - it’s running right now...
