Holding signs that read "Let us go to school," and "No war for America," 10 Morton West High School students suspended over an anti-war protest returned to campus Tuesday to demand they be allowed back in school.
The kids were among 25 who were suspended, with some now facing expulsions, after staging a protest against the Iraq war in the cafeteria last Thursday. About 20 parents and anti-war activists stood with them in front of the Berwyn school Tuesday.
"All we were trying to do was promote peace and recognize that people are dying every day," said sophomore Adam Szwarek. They also were protesting regular school visits by military recruiters. "[School officials] said it was insubordination."
In a letter delivered Tuesday to District 201 Supt. Ben Nowakowski, parents of the student protesters demanded their kids be returned to class.
The kids insisted the day-long sit-in was peaceful but Nowakowski said the students seriously disrupted the school day. He did not return calls Tuesday but told the Sun-Times Monday that the student protesters were "boisterous and wouldn't listen to police and the administration."
During the protest, the students were invited to move outside and were told they wouldn't be disciplined if they complied, he said. Some students returned to class but others locked arms and refused to move, he said.
The students admit locking arms and being loud but say they then moved to the alternative site when Nowakowski told them they would only be disciplined for cutting class. They accuse Nowakowski of going back on his word and overreacting.

I can see this as clear as day...I have seen it before.
Talking about both kids AND parents.
I would like the email address of the principal to show support...
they will be living at home until their 30, then it will hit them...taxes? wats taxes?
Reminds me of somebodys daughter, who upon receiving her very first paycheck, noted all the deductions for state and federal taxes, said “Daddy, I didn’t agree to *any* of this...” lol
OOPS - that should say “screwing off”.
Here’s the address and phone number >>> http://www.jsmortonhs.com/schools/default.asp?c=4885
These kids should do a summer internship in Iran, Syria, North Korea, Iraq and Afghanistan and see first hand what kind of world they are fighting for back in the States by protesting our warriors.
to demand they be allowed back in school.
DEMAND! Screw them.........let them protest in their own kitchen while being Home Schooled.
What about all of the tax payers that pay to have their kids actually learn math, english etc. If these neocomms in training want to make a statement, let them do it on their own time and their own dime.
It wasn’t all that long ago that the principal would give these kids a kick in the ass and send them home where their parents would give them another kick in the ass.

I still can’t find an e-mail address.
My son received his first paycheck a few weeks ago. Being a kid he immediately looked at the check, we then went over the check stub. I pointed out what he actually earned compared to what he was paid and explained the deductions to him. I told him the more he makes the more they take.
Let me take these kids on a Patriot Guard Rider misson and they will stop this crap!
Would folks be so quick to applaud if this was say a pro-life demonstration? I think many would not.
You are missing the point here. The left wing parents are most likely the reason that these kids protested originally. Most teens are not really political except for ideas gained from their parents, these kids evidently have extreme left wingers for parents. The parents are out there "supporting" their children. They are most likely the only reason these kids are now "demanding" to be let back in school. This principle had better hold fast or he will soon be over run with protestors of every sort during school hours.
I do remember those days. Days when the parents supported the schools actions and allowed them the necessary authority to do the job of teaching the kids AND instilling in them the respect and appreciation for all we have.
The only difference between these 25 kids and today’s liberal is more than half of them (the kids) will grow up.
Liberals, by definition, are caught in a world of infantilism.
I was in shock at the deductions for taxes when I received my first paycheck back in 2005.
I saw this in the ROK when I was stationed there. The young folks tended towards protests and “US out!”; the older generation, the ones who were actually around and lived under communists and fought the communists were another breed entirely. They appreciated US soldiers very very much. Same thing more or less in Germany too. It’s really bizarre how people quickly forget or get brainwashed.
