US in Economic doldrums and Bin Laden is smiling
Nov. 9 2007 | Westpole

Bin Laden never thought he could destroy the United States with bombs. In an interview shortly after 9/11 he said he expected the US to bankrupt itself. It seems that is well on our way to fullfilling his expectation.

Of course the war in Iraq is costly but even more costly has been the effect of the war against terror has had on business. Seven hour border crossing cut trade not only directly but indirectly..those that never even try because its not worth it..and as the economic gloom increases other markets seem more attractive anyway. The constant drumbeat to increase the inspection of people goods and communications all have a profoundingly chilling effect on commerce.

Some think we have no choice but that is paranoia in the extreme. During WW2 Hitler wanted to launch a terror/sabotage campaign in the US. A sophiscated county with lots of resources failed completely to make any damage on US soil. We have to be practical about how we respond to the threats. Right now the main threat is a severely weakening economy at the very time that the rest of the world is prospering. China Canada Brazil India ...even Russia all going gangbusters..and the US is hurting.. what explains this?

The USA is the economic engine of the world and are economy is doing very well, GPD growth was 3.9% last quarter and unemployment rate is at 4.6% which is very low and our standards of living are the best in the world and the envy of all the countries including Europeans countries and Japan.

Do you have any evidence, other than anecdotal, that the policies you describe, such as 7-hour border crossings, are the cause of our "hurting" economy?

I don't know what to believe, but the latest statistics show the US economy to be the most efficient in the world in terms of productivity.

When cycles occur, is it really possible to tie the difficulty to one source, as you seem to be doing?

Are you proposing to ease the restrictions on travel and commerce? Since I travel internationally a lot, I would welcome that, although I have my doubts that the economy would perk up as a result.

Bin Laden is not our problem. He and Arab states and tribal leaders are propped up by China. China is our issue. If China wanted Bin Laden dead he would be dead.

I’m making more than I did last year, which was a lot more than I ever expected to earn in my life. I owe no credit card companies. I have one of everything, I think. My investment accounts are doing well.

I just can’t find anything to bitch about lately. Am I not trying hard enough?

Agreed. If not he’s a gutless coward who as Bush said use to run a nation and now runs a cave.

LOL! I think it would be best to ignore this kind of drivel. He must be watching way too much MSM propaganda.
