Giuliani Risky Candidate for Conservatives
Illinois Conservative ^ | November 11th, 2007 | Jerry M.

Posted on 11/11/2007 4:03:53 AM PST by Josh Painter

This winter’s Republican primaries will be a contest between the moderate to left leaning wing of the Republican Party and the conservative base. As it stands now the moderates are winning. The conservatives have more votes but they are split between at least four candidates, while Rudy can wrap up all the moderate votes. If he wins the nomination, the conservative movement moves back a few years. Abortion and “gay rights” immediately come off the table. Immigration, health care, and global warming move into the “iffy” column...

His political background is spotty at best. Mayor of New York is the only elected office he has ever held. His credentials as a Republican are not too solid either.

Rudy began his political career as a Democrat, volunteering as a campaign worker in John F. Kennedy’s run for President. In 1972, he supported George McGovern. He changed his party affiliation from Democrat to Independent in 1975. When Ronald Reagan won the 1980 election, Rudy immediately switched from Independent to Republican. Many believed he did so in order to gain appointment to the Reagan Justice Department...

While Rudy may very well win the Republican nomination, he still has to win the general election. As soon as the primaries are over, the Democrats will stop running against Bush and begin running against the Republican nominee. With Rudy’s background, it is far from certain how he would fare against the “Clinton War Room”.

Many conservatives and Republicans have bought into the idea that to win a national election you have to move to the center. This is probably the number one consideration among many supporters of Giuliani. They believe he is the most “electable” candidate. Reagan and Gingrich both proved that when conservative principles are clearly articulated by a strong candidate they win elections.

Giuliani is a risky candidate for the GOP!

Conservatives are split and the winter primaries are likely to be equally split. Although Rudy leads handily in the polls, he probably won't win enough states to win the nomination. Sadly, it will likely come down to a vote on the floor at the national convention. Then, who knows which candidate will represent the GOP in '08?

If one of these "conservative" candidates doesn't do something to set his self apart from the rest of the field, and soon, we might just see the ugliest convention in GOP history.

Many conservatives and Republicans have bought into the idea that to win a national election you have to move to the center.

Moving to the so called "center" means sacrificing principles to appease the socialist left to garner as many votes as possible simply for the sake of winning. This has been occurring for many years. Conservatives don't sacrifice their principles. Consequently the GOP has abandon Conservatives and has aligned its political ideology with the socialist Democrats. Republicans must end their "centrist" movement and return to what once was its Conservative base if it has any chance of getting the Conservative vote.

The top candidates of the rinos which includes Rudy and Mitt and McCain are all risky candidates for conservatives because they are social liberals as President Bush is.

Reagan and Gingrich both proved that when conservative principles are clearly articulated by a strong candidate they win elections.

Haven't the Values Voters and Social Conservatives already driven Newt out of the race, due to his two divorces ("too much baggage") and despite his inarguable, steadfast, and brilliant articulation of contemporary conservatism?

Oh, I forgot. One's loyalty to the Monomaniacal Anti-Abortion Party platform is more important than petty conservativism. As Tony Perkins has made quite clear of late: his 12 million troopers are more "socially Conservative" than us run-of-the-mill normal everyday Conservatives. Somehow.

You folks are all wet....Rudy is the only guy that can beat the beast and I certainly don’t want her

Fred may be a nice guy, but he is not dynamic of any other strong qualities.....at best he’s a VP.

the wiz, just wait until he is the nominee....hillary will drop a pantload of info on rudy. our best bet is to hype a real conservative over the next four years so hillary will be beat in 2012. Shouldnt be too hard she will mess things up real good.

Just remember ... Her Thighness, Hillary Rotten Clinton, is far riskier. Personally, I think Bernie Kerik will be the millstone which ends Rudy’s run.

A NY liberal up against Hillary isnt going to work. With Rudy’s baggage, the Dems will clobber him...and it will make it harder for the GOP to use Hillary’s baggage against her.

The GOP will only win if they run a true conservative

RINO Rudy is worse than “dangerous”.
Even if he should win, he would mean the death of the Republican “brand” and the end of the GOP. The result would be EXACTLY like the coup de gras Gov. Pataki gave to the GOP here in New York State.
GOP gone, dead, finito.

There is no “risk” here. It is a certainty. Giuliani will lose the election.

Yah, Rudy is pretty dynamic with the can can...

He is also dynamic grabbing guns and advocating the gay agenda, abortion, sanctuary cities, and open borders. How can Rudy save us from Hillary when he IS Hillary in a dress instead of pantsuit.

Rudy and his supporters are the ones who are all wet. The beast will crush him into a fine powder.
