Why the Ron Paul Campaign is Dangerous
NewsBull ^ | November 11, 2007 | JB Williams

I hate wasting this much press time on Ron Paul. But the Paul campaign is becoming a real threat to the Republican primary process and if allowed to continue, he will take votes away from the most conservative Republican candidates in the party, not the most liberal. This is bad for the party and the country.

(snip)

So, how Republican is Republican candidate Ron Paul?

If he’s funded largely by anti-war leftists, from Democrat stronghold districts and counting on Democrats, Libertarians and members of the Green Party to win the Republican nomination, not very…

Ron Paul is the new Lyndon LaRouche.

Paul is much worse. LaRouche never had any financial backing, press support, etc. Paul is more like Ross Perot on crack.

That’s because they don’t have any votes to take. LOL (just kidding, sorta)

Tancredo and Hunter are polling worse than Paul among conservatives. I understand Paul’s problem, leftist anti-war talking points.

But what’s the problem with Hunter and Tancredo, other than both seem one track pony’s on the border issue, and both are also career politicians like Paul?

You can disagree with the rationale behind the Iraq War without being a nut. Once committed to a war, however, with US soliders in harm's way, I believe you should execute a war as expeditiously and forcefully as possible. And you can disagree with the nuts and bolt of the Patriot Act without disputing the desire to safeguard the USA from murderers and saboteurs.

How do you feel about the Department of Homeland Security? Before and after 9/11, did the Bush Administration support or oppose the request of airline pilots to bear arms?

I am not sure yet another FedGov bureaucracy is the best way to secure citizens' liberties or lives. But it sure keeps taxes high.

He’s attracting the anti-war crowd only, that’s it. If you’re not anti-war on terror, you’re not for Paul.

All the other issues are just cover for the anti-war issue. A means of justifying support for Paul “beyond” anti-war support.

Yep, most RP supporters have not made their first car payment yet and still eat at mom and dads table for free.

Fred was winning these polls consistently when Paul was included. He’s still winning now. I know you will keep beating the Hunter drum until the end, but I hope some of those who read here will decide to get behind Fred before Rudy takes the prize.

The major problem is that the FR polls aren’t representative of the populace at large. Remember back in 2000 how Keyes and Buchanan won them all but couldn’t scratch when voting time came. In fact Buchanan at least saw the light and went RP.

In 52 days the selection process begins in earnest and when it’s all said and done the process will play out much like the national polls are showing the candidates. We need one of the current leaders to faulter and allow a more conservative candidate come forward.

Give them some credit, a lot of them were selfless enough to forgo a dime bag of pot to support the nutcase.

So, you’re saying that you see no connection in the fact that districts always 80% Democrats in know liberal parts of the counrty, where lots of tech industry hacks reside and come up with ways the spam polls for Paul?

Have you had your eyes checked lately?

Not true. I support Paul's stance on freedom from government excess. I support his candidacy (his right to run, that is) because he exposes promises the big R party has failed to deliver on. I hope he makes voters hold Republicans in FedGov office to a higher standard.

I also wade in to defend him now and then just because we have folks cooking up all sort of litmus tests to define conservatism that have nothing to do with lowers taxes and less government micromanagement in everyday lives. Also, there was a time when Republicans could disagree on foreign policy and nation-building. Hell, George Bush ran on that platform. Now suddenly its taboo to oppose wading out into some third-world country at ungodly cost?

Finally, I hope that voters will find and promote federalist/small FedGov candidates for Congressional and Senate seats, not just fawn at the feet of the favorite son picked by the party machine. Oklahoma chose Tom Coburn over the party man in the primaries, and we are better for it.

Or, they manage to divide the conservative vote, which is what Paul has done best so far.

According to official campaign fund raising filings posted at www.opensecrets.org, Ron Paul’s top contributor is well known internet giant Google...with Al Gore on the board of directors...

(snip)

Among Ron Paul’s top donor zip codes are of course parts of Texas, but also heavily liberal districts in Chicago (60614), San Francisco (94117), more than 80% of which supports Nancy Pelosi and Barbara Boxer, and Los Angeles – Long Beach, which is his second largest donor area after Dallas. What we have here is a candidate trying to win the Republican nomination by raising money from liberals across the political aisle.

This is why his fund-raising is not translating to improved poll positions

His donors are not Republicans. So no matter how much money he raises, it is not translating into Republican support in the polls. He remains at or below 5% support in every national Republican poll, no matter how much money he raises.

I've been saying this on this board for two months now, much to the derision of the Pauline Apostles and others. I'm glad that someone else is finally catching on...

That is exactly correct. Bush’s major donors came from those same zip codes. In prior posts, I gave you the link to Bush’s opensecrets.org donor by zip code pages for the 2000 and 2004 election cycles. You and many might not like the facts as recorded by the FEC, but that is the record.

Bush made specific efforts to court these groups in both elections (Long Beach and NYC, NJ, CT, Boca Raton Fl, etc) especially in the 2000 election cycle.

Did you support Bush in his 2000 and 2004 election campaign?
Because Bush’s major donors came from the same zip codes as those donors that are now derided by geographic bigotry by this author.

I gave you the links above.

This article is absolute junk.

How is Ron Paul going to "take votes away" from conservative candidates that are supposedly much better than him?

He's going to fool them? Republican primary voters are stupid? I don't get it.
