Democrats will turn on gays any time it helps them

Like American blacks and Jews, homosexuals are another group of people who tend to vote for the Democrats in reflexively large percentages. And, if one is thinking solely about "gay issues," they may have reason to do so. However, I wonder how many people who are gay have taken note of the fact that Democrats will take off on homosexuals and homosexuality when it suits them politically. They do it with a touch of plausible deniability, but they send a message nonetheless.

If you are gay, and you are a Democrat, and there is a prostitution ring being run from your residence, it's no big deal. And your homosexuality is not an issue.

If you are gay, and you have gay sex with 17-year-old congressional pages, you keep your job and get reelected multiple times. And your homosexuality is not an issue.

If you are gay, and you are Republican, and you send inappropriate text messages to a page, the Democrats and the press hound the issue incessantly, to make the most political hay possible. Americans are generally tolerant, but they tend to feel a bit of generalized distaste when they're actually forced to imagine gay sex. The press plays it up and up, to capitalize on this phenomenon. Same thing with Larry Craig. That what he did was illegal and disruptive to public decency is ONLY an issue to the Democrats because he is a Republican. Had he been a Democrat, this would have been a part of his protected and "celebrated" lifestyle.

As long as you're a Republican, your gayness becomes a weapon in the Democrats' political arsenal.

Very insightful.
This goes directly to the political effect of “outing” - which is a means by which gay Republicans or conservatives can be exposed - the equivalent of the Marxist doctrine of “class traitor”.

The more I learn about Democrats, the more indistinguishable they appear from communists.

But at the moment, the republicans are hardly the party to protect you, so the only choice is to be a democrat. Gays, Muslims, Hispanics — our policies are better for ALL of them than democratic policies.

But we are not very friendly to any of them, and the democrats will attack those who join us, so simple survival says “be democrat”.

If being republican means you get attacked by democrats AND republicans, and being democrat means being attacked by republicans and protected by democrats, what are you going to choose?

This is not unlike the complaints about Jimmy Carter, who turned on our “friends” because they weren’t squeaky-clean, and pushed them all into our enemies hands, not because the enemy was particularly desirable, but because the enemy would protect them and help them so long as they were our enemy.

At this point, I’m hard-pressed to explain why a mormon, gay, muslim, or hispanic should join the republican party. Too many republican/conservatives would object to their presence.

We need to learn as a party to defend our principles more quickly than attacking people’s personalities. We can object to government support for the gay lifestyle without vilifying gays or claiming they can’t be trusted to hold positions in government or our judicial system. We can object to policy without attacking a candidate for being mormon.

We can speak about the dangers of radical islamic fascism without saying every muslim-american is unamerican and subhuman, even if they served in our military.

We can fight to secure the borders and to punish employers and deport illegals, without complaining about everybody who speaks spanish or likes Salsa music.

I think a vast majority of Freepers and conservatives agree with me. I’ve just found too many who don’t, who have done all those things above, and who think THEY represent the majority of conservatives.

I can only hope not, because if they do, we ARE the bigots and will never regain control of anything.

The democrats will turn on anyone if they think it can help them, so will republicans. Both partys true loyalties are to power these days.

I disagree. Otherwise, the pubbies would still be in power. There is a big split amongst them, whereas, the dims would do anything!

The leadership will for the most part do whatever it takes to stay in power, the rank and file will not. So they started losing.

Something needs to be done or we are going to end up with 5 southern states and that is it. I am not for special favors for anyone, but to vilify people is not a good way of getting them to pull the Republican lever.

History shows that it's not the first time Socialism turns against its homosexual base in keeping up with a "moderate" image to please conservatives:

The more I learn about Democrats, the more indistinguishable they appear from communists.

35 years ago my dad, a democrat, defined communism for me and warned me of it's evils. Now that he is 66 years old he believes that everyone is entitled to the same level of health care whether a billionaire or a bum that has never worked.

I don’t think we’ll hear as much about gay marriage in 2008 as we did in 2004. Not a winning issue. People like Rosie O’Donnell hurt the cause.
