MILWAUKEE (AP) _ A 79-year-old Roman Catholic nun from Illinois pleaded no contest Monday to indecent behavior with a child for alleged sexual encounters with two male students at a church convent and school where she was principal during the 1960s.
The nun, Norma Giannini, listed in online court records as living in Oak Lawn, Ill., and her attorney left the courthouse without comment after entering the pleas in Milwaukee County Circuit Court on the day her trial was to begin.
Giannini faces a maximum 10 years on each of two counts when sentenced Feb. 1.
"She decided to do the right thing,'' said her attorney, Nikola Kostich. "She didn't put the victims through a trial.''
Kostich said she also changed her plea because of concerns about possible lawsuits. A trial could have provided a record that could have been used in such lawsuits, though none have been filed, he said.
According to the criminal complaint, the two men told authorities they had dozens of sexual encounters with Giannini, including intercourse, while attending St. Patrick's School.
Both of the students -- James St. Patrick, now 53, and Gerald Kobs, now 55 -- attended the hearing.
St. Patrick said afterward that he began abusing alcohol and drugs after the abuse and did so for 35 years. He and Kobs "built up the courage over the years'' to come forward, he said.

That's what she said!
Jocelyn Elders would call that a quality education! Humans are sexually mature in their early teens. To avoid or deny this fact is irresponsible. Coping skills, manners, etiquite, and appropriateness may not go hand in hand with sexual maturity.(no pun intended)
Hell, that used to be something to brag about.
Rod Stewart made a fortune singing about it!
Any jury that gave these male “victims” a single penny for schlonging this woman is nuts. They were teenagers bedding a woman, not little boys being sodomized by a male priest. It isn’t the same.
I agree.
Regardless of the harm to the men invoved, putting this elderly sick woman in jail serves no purpose.
All that would be accomplished is that the government would be billed for her medical treatment. At premium at that because it would have to be at a secure medical facility. .

Hey...
The video is a fairly good presentation of events and has comments by the to men, as well as her attorney.
Hmmmm....A boy started using drugs and alcohol after being ‘abused’ by a woman?
This strikes me as a rare cause and effect relationship.
Well....assuming she looked a little better 40 years ago...
The nun apparently confessed! What part of “he said, she said” is necessary in this case?!
I remember very well a couple of women “coming on to me” when I was young. My reaction was immediate fear and “get away fast”. I can’t help but think these people that claim they were molested were actually willing participants.
"When I go to Confession these days I tell the Priest, "Okay, you go first."
Did you know that if your son is 16 and touching a girl who's 16, and the two have been thoroughly exploring adolescence and the thrills it brings, that he will be prosecuted and have to register as a lifetime sex offender? That is occuring every day in my county.
The world has gone mad. I kid you not. One of my coworkers serves on the local school board. It's become a major headache. Money is made on it and it's becoming the income generating mechanism for single moms with daughters all around.
Do you have any documentation for that claim?
My impression of the churchs reason for the vow of celibacy is to save money and collect inheritances of deceased priests.
Married priests need larger salaries priest with children even more. Priest without heirs will their estates to the church. Follow the money as the old saying goes.
That’s a more relevant picture. GUILTY!!!
I think you’re making my argument. Better than my limited prose I guess. My father in law (who was a priest) discussed it with me. I think it was around 1100AD that the pope pulled the new rule out of his a$$. Prior to that priests could be married.
hey! nobody is forcing anyone to join the clergy. if you want to live through hell on earth then by all means, marry.
BTW, her school was Bryn Mawr College. You know that one! A certain presidential candidate went there.
Rather innovative.
