Huckabee offered 'no-cost' deal for Mexican Consulate
WorldNetDaily.com ^ | November 13, 2007 | Jerome R. Corsi

An Arkansas commercial developer confirmed his role in a no-cost "incentive deal" packaged by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee to attract a Mexican Consulate to Little Rock.

Meanwhile, an Arkansas legislator expressed concern that Huckabee used taxpayer funds inappropriately in a plan ultimately designed to assist illegal immigrants in Arkansas.

"Any taxpayer money that is used to help facilitate breaking the law is wrong," Green emphasized.

WND previously reported Robert Trevino, commissioner of the Arkansas Rehabilitation Services, had signed a lease providing the Mexican Consulate space in an Arkansas Rehabilitations Services building at a cost of $1 per year. The lease provided the consulate temporary space until permanent space could be found.

Bruce Burrow told WND his commercial real estate company acquired the land and developed the Mexican consulate building in Little Rock at the request of Huckabee, in a deal the then-governor engineered to make sure he snared the Mexican consulate away from other states.

"I agreed to do the project at no cost," Burrow told WND, confirming his involvement in the Huckabee plan.

Arkansas Republican state legislator Rick Green objected to Huckabee using taxpayer funds in the scheme.

"I'd like to sit down with Huckabee and visit with him on the issue and see if there is anything he can tell me on the Mexican consulate deal that I am not seeing," Green told WND in a telephone interview.

"But I have not seen any argument Huckabee has made that convinces me that the Mexican consulate deal was the right thing to do," he said.

Maybe he made up the $1.00 a year lease by taxing these people below?

On March 7, 2001, Huckabee signed a tax on private nursing homes for $5.25 per day per non-Medicare patient.[29]

He is only for people on welfare or illegal aliens.

A couple of months ago I posted that Hukabee is on the rise and a candidate to watch. With his poor position on immigration while governor I no longer think he has a chance at being the nominee.

WND asked Burrow if Huckabee wanted to provide Mexico incentives because having the Mexican Consulate in Little Rock would help attract low-cost Hispanic workers to the state.

“The Mexican Consulate was never considered an inducement for any illegal aliens to come into the state,” he protested. “The Mexican government placed the consulate here simply to handle the representation of their citizens in this part of the mid-South area. The Mexican government has done everything they said they would do, and I am very satisfied with the situation.”

Green, however, expressed concern.

“We’re an agricultural state, and a poultry producing state,” he said. “That’s where we get the argument that there would not be enough people to fill the jobs if every illegal was deported from the state of Arkansas.”

Sounds like Huckabee has been in conference with ex-ElPresidente Jefe Fox and current ElPresidente Calderon to make sure he has the “correct” policy Mexico demands of any US president, so Huckleberry can be sure to pander properly during his campaign.

No wonder the GOP establishment have become so impressed with Huckabee. He's their kind of politician.

They're about as trustworthy as the MSM in their choice of GOP candidates. Why the base would even listen to their learned opinion is beyond me.

Mexican Airlines Look at Ark.

By Jon Gambrell 11 May 2007 @

LITTLE ROCK - Two Mexican airlines wanting to reach a growing immigrant population in Arkansas and neighboring states may soon add direct flights to Little Rock.

Aeromexico and Mexicana, two of Mexico's largest airlines, are in discussions to fly in and out of Little Rock National Airport, said airport spokesman Philip Launius. The hope, Launius said, is that the airport would be the central hub for travel to Mexico from Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri and Tennessee.

"One of the Japanese steel company executives described Arkansas as being the navel of NAFTA," Launius said, referring to the North American Free Trade Agreement. "It's about equidistant between the industrial part of eastern Canada and Mexico."

Discussions between the airport and two airlines have been ongoing for about a year, Launius said, as officials offer the airlines statistics on the state's Hispanic immigrant population, one of the fastest growing in the nation. U.S. Census Bureau statistics show that at least 130,000 Hispanics live in Arkansas, the majority of those from Mexico. But demographers and state officials believe that number may be much higher because illegal immigrants typically shy away from census counters.

But immigrant travelers and visiting family members wouldn't be the only ones traveling between Arkansas and Mexico. State statistics show Mexico was Arkansas' second-largest export destination, with $415 million worth of goods heading there in 2005. Canada was No. 1 with more than $1 billion.

"It's got both a corporate and a leisure component," Launius said. "We're really excited. Of course, that gives you international status in terms of an airport. It's stepping up to a higher plane."

Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, more than 300 miles away from Little Rock, is now the closest hub for direct flights from Mexico for Mexicana. The airport once had direct flights from Aeromexico as well, but the airline left, an airport official said.

Memphis International Airport in Tennessee, about 150 miles away from Little Rock, has one direct flight to Cancun on Northwest Airlines.

Bruce Hicks, a U.S.-based spokesman for Aeromexico, said he had heard nothing about the negotiations. Officials with Mexicana could not be immediately reached for comment Friday.

Launius said Little Rock's new Mexican consulate, which opened last month, has been providing extra leverage in the negotiations.

The Little Rock airport sees about 2.5 million passengers a year. If the airlines agree to fly to Little Rock, Launius said the airport would need to build a facility for U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents to do inspections of incoming passengers.

(The Mexican Consulate serves 4 States surrounding Arkansas. Thanks again, Mike.)

Sounds like he's tired of C&W and bluegrass music...
and wants to replace it with mariachi and ranchera music.
