A very insightful, and mighty smackdown, of Brian De Palma's propaganda movie "Redacted" by Michael Medved.
He calls the movie "The worst film I have ever seen."
Medved has been reviewing movies for over 25 years, and certainly knows his subject.
Brian De Palma really layed an egg with this one.
He couldn't even make an effective propaganda movie.
That’s only $21,541 more than I grossed last weekend, and I didn’t even release a movie.
These movies are not being made to be profitable inside the USA. They are for the worldwide hateAmerica audience - a world where dvds and videos can be passed from home to home when electricity is available to view them.
Yeah - what's up with that? How much longer are you going to make us wait? And don't throw a change up and hit us with any of that "Razor's Edge" kinda stuff either.....
The budget was estimated at $30 million with Cruise and Redford taking a cut in up front pay for a deferred piece of the gross. The word gross is the key. In normal deals the picture must do 2.5 times the budget at box office just to break even. That means at least $75 million for Lions. But, because of Cruise and Redford getting paid out of gross receipts the real number will be closer to $87 million.
Foreign and DVD will not rescue this turkey.
Understand also that a huge chunk of the foreign DVD market is buying boot-leg product. The studios get zip on those.
***This movie was not made to sell in the US, it was made to tarnish the President and the US military in the eyes of the world.
It will do gangbusters when its released overseas.***
You are so right on this. Few movies are made for Americans anymore. It is the world audience they play to.
The studios get zip on those.

But the audience still gets the anti-American message, which is the main point of the production.
I happened to see a clip of Meryl Streep on a morning TV show. It must have been on youtube as I don’t turn on morning TV. She was totally inarticulate about this movie. She could not explain what it was about, because telling the truth would not have been very smart, and she was not very adept at waffling.
China is full of bootleg DVDs. One of my student workers a couple of years ago loaned me a Chinese film on DVD after learning that I like Asian cinema. It was bootleg! She had brought it with her from China. And foreign films are even more likely to be bootlegged there.
I thought the picture was a little blurry until a shadow got up on the screen. It was a bootleg copy that they had gotten by just setting up a recorder in the back of the original theater.
Oh, well.
I suggest that you try to get a copy of Secret Sunshine (korea). It’s just a matter of time before Hollywood screws up a remake of it.
Hollywood is apparently screwing up A Tale of Two Sisters even as we speak. :-(
Wow...this movie is getting worse reviews than Lions for Lambs.
Make sure it’s the right region and sub-titled.
This reminds me, for no good reason, what ever happened to your elf character? And why was there an elf character? I mean we've all heard of Renaissance Men, and presumably there were Renaissance Women, since humanity moved past that period - but Renaissance Elves? As though elves weren't know-it-all enough....
It will do gangbusters when its released overseas.
One thing that I've always been amazed at is the way that leftists think that things happen in a vacuum (a major part of "dialectical materialism," which drives Marxism), and that there are no consequences to their actions.
Examples include the way that the Gore, and later Kerry teams did all they could to shake the confidence of voters in the US election system, since the outcome didn't work out the way they wanted... Since they lost (and they damned well knew it, while doing all they could to manipulate the system), it must have been through cheating OR flaws in the system. Never mind that their attacks on the electoral system caused serious damage that will last generations.
In the case of these movies, these hateful moonbats are venting their rage at the hated George Bush and the military, but guess what... President Bush will only be in office for a bit over a year, but these movies will motivate our enemies for generations. These movies will be awesome recruiting tools for terrorists in the years to come. One day we'll be able to say that the deaths of American military AND civilians were directly caused by these movies, I'm afraid to say.
Liberals rarely, if ever, think about the consequences of their actions. As long as they "mean well." Never mind what happens when things go horribly wrong. Being a liberal means never having to say your sorry.
