Tancredo wants one tongue - Candidate confronted by Arabic speaker
Concord Monitor ^ | November 18. 2007 | SARAH LIEBOWITZ

Posted on 11/19/2007 8:21:46 AM PST by 3AngelaD

Describing the United States as "the last best hope" for carrying on the ideals of western civilization, Republican presidential candidate Tom Tancredo called last night for an end to the nation's "bilingualization" and "Balkanization."... Tancredo's comments didn't go unchallenged...."I speak the same language as the people that flew into the towers; I speak the same language as all the Iraqis we are killing; I speak many languages, and I'm proud of it," said Siham Elhamoumi, 22, who recently graduated from St. Michael's College in Vermont..."Am I the enemy?" Elhamoumi then pulled her shawl over her head, so it covered her hair....

"Do you take us for idiots, for people who have no appreciation of our history?" she asked. "Perhaps you don't have an understanding of your country right now, of its composition."

Tancredo repeatedly broke in, asking Elhamoumi to pose a question. He finally asked her a question of his own: "Do you believe that we should replace the Constitution with Sharia law?"

"That is below me," Elhamoumi replied. "Do not belittle people's opinions and people's beliefs and people's religions. Do not put one religion above the other."

Tancredo repeatedly insisted that his views on immigration have "nothing to do with race or ethnicity or anything of that nature." His concern, he said, is national cohesion, whether Americans share the same fundamental principles, whether there is "a singleness of purpose about the idea of America."

Increasingly, he said, immigrants are failing to assimilate - to learn English and embrace American values - as they did in years past. As evidence, Tancredo cited the existence of a bilingual newspaper in Iowa. "We are seeing the Balkanization of America and the bilingualization, which I do not think is a good idea," he said....

She missed the point entirely....All these minorities are piling into America and dragging their wacky customs and cultures with them. The American government is the one at fault here! They have allowed this to happen. Tancredo is not abolishing anyones religion. He’s simply saying that America needs a basic structure or guideline to maintain its sovereignty! We do not want a fractured society like England. I sure as hell do not want my tax money going for a drivers test printed in twenty languages!

I like the way she rubbed his nose in the fact that America has been infiltrated and populated with insurgents-in-waiting along with all the instant welfare sinks.

Speak English first. Then your native language. My grandparents used to speak Italian but when there were people who did not understand their tongue... my dad told them to speak English. THAT is the right way. It would be the same if you were in a room with some people and instead of speaking where everyone could hear you...you continually WHISPERED into the ear of the person next to you. Wouldn’t that be rude as well? SPEAK ENGLISH!!!

I have a theory of what is taking place in our Nation, in simple language. I cannot share it today, but my theory appears to be plausible. I will share my theory when I can.

Haven’t the UK and Britain been good enough examples of why NOT TO LET THESE FANATICS INTO AMERICA??? How many times do we suffer before we get the message?? Only Australia has had the LEADERSHIP AND CONVICTION to protect itself from these fanatic extremist islamo-fascists.

Hello Washington....wake up.

“....”I speak the same language as the people that flew into the towers; I speak the same language as all the Iraqis we are killing; I speak many languages, and I’m proud of it,”

The fact that she is proud to speak the same language as those who flew into the towers and Iraqi’s we are fighting says alot about her sympathies. What she fails to realize is that she can speak as many freaking languages as she likes, but that the sole language to transact govt business in the US should be English. language

You are exactly correct.

I ask anyone here, Do we have a distinct "United States of America" culture in this country anymore?

Damn! look at the phrase I just used!

In years past I would have just typed "American culture".

Is the theory that we need a benevolent despot (like Francisco Franco) for about a decade or so?

She has the same attitude as the 9/11 terrorists, so yeah, she’s the enemy.

I speak the same language as the people that flew into the towers; I speak the same language as all the Iraqis we are killing;

Tancredo missed an opportunity to shut her up...

He could have said, 'And you speak the language of all the Iraqis we are fighting for and saving their lives and their country...But you have clearly chosen the side of Osama Bin Laden in your attack on the U.S. of A...

Next question please...

Tom should have asked this person, a second class citizen in her own religion, how long did she think her big mouth would last in any Islamic country.

Regards

Yes Tom, there were never any Italian language newspapers in America.

Okay, so apparently Sharia law IS part of the Muslim religion. This woman took the question as a belittling of her religion, that means, if she is a believer, she believes Sharia should be implemented, but that can't happen AND keep the US Constitution.

I couldn't find much, but here's what our newly graduated student has been up to:

From the St Michael's College (Catholic) website: "A multicultural panel on Approaches to Peace featured President Marc vander-Heyden, Assistant Professor of Economics Tara Natarajan, Siham Elhamoumi ’07, a chief organizer of the day’s events and a native of Morocco, and Jacob Awar Ayuen ’06, who found refuge in Vermont from his war-torn home in Sudan."

From the Seven Day's (Vermont's Independent Voice), our girl practiced questioning a presidential candidate: "After relaying some anecdotes from the 2004 election, Flynn moved behind a podium and pretended to be Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani. “Come on, everyone loves me, I’m America’s mayor, ask me some questions!” yelled the radical activist."

"Siham Elhamoumi, a 22-year-old organizer with the Vermont Global Health Coalition, stood up. “Eight thousand people die every day of AIDS worldwide,” she began. “Would you support $50 billion in funding for HIV/AIDS over five years?”"

From the St Michael's College student newspaper:

"Siham Elhamoumi, a senior SGAC member and organizer of World AIDS day events, presented Leahy with an oversized thank you card signed by many students at St. Michael’s.

“Thank you for your leadership in AIDS,” Elhamoumi said to Leahy. “We ask you to support health care workers in Africa with $8 billion over five years.”

After Leahy’s visit, the crowd continued toward Sanders’ office on Church Street.

Rowlands led the march, shouting, “Show me what democracy looks like!”

The crowd responded, yelling, “This is what democracy looks like!”

The group arrived at One Church Street, chanting and waving signs outside of Sanders’ second story office window.

“Thank you Bernie!” shouted the group as Sanders approached.

Elhamoumi addressed Sanders and repeated the plea for $8 billion for the health care worker initiative.

Sanders said students need to work on this issue together, and he thanked them for their activism.

“Moral things help fight against terrorism,” Sanders said. “This is good public policy for America.”"

Hmmm, I wonder if Elhamoumi would thank George Bush, whose made AIDS in Africa his cause, for his activity to stop AIDS?

Constitution is not a religion

The point is that the Constitution is law, and so is Sharia, which is mandated by a supposed religion, which is in reality an Arab mein kampf.
