Green is as green does.
Site won’t let me post, but won’t tell me why (no prompt), but here’s the red meat:
EVEN IF (and it’s a hotly debate “IF”) man’s activities really do contribute to climate change, the dirty little secret is that, at MOST, man’s infulence constitutes only about 5% of all climate-changing influence globally. The other 95% of the influence for climate change is entirely natural; biological decay, volcanic emmissions, solar gain, etc.
This means that, even if all of mankind’s influence dropped to ZERO — NOW — a hundred, or even a thousand, years from now, 95% of the climate-driven “catastrophe” would STILL HAVE HAPPENED ANYWAY.
ENTIRELY WITHOUT US!
At least 95% of climate change is NATURALLY DRIVEN, and that represents natural forces over which we exercise ZERO control. Even if we annihilate the global economy in efforts to reduce our influence to nothing, the natural forces cannot, and will not, be abated. We cannot stop them, nor can we even slow them down. To suggest that we may be able to reverse them is a supreme indulgence in abject, unscientific FANTASY.
Global climate change is driven by inexorable natural forces in comparison to which our own contributions are a mere flyspeck of negligible overall weight.
As such, it is the very apex — the zenith, the ultimate summit — of arrogance, and ignorance, for anyone — I don’t care who — to assert that man is, somehow, going to stop climate change, and it is beyond absurd to think that anything constructive will be achieved merely by us changing lightbulbs, and trading in all of our Hummers for Prius hybrids.
Face reality: every human on Earth, could take every “green” action conceivable, and in one hundred years (or even one thousand) the measurement of our collective impact would be lost below the statistical “noise” threshold of our finest data collection tools, which is to say...
...IT WOULD BE INDISTINGUISHABLE FROM ZERO.
So, go ahead and take steps to make the water cleaner. That’s a worthy cause.
Take steps to keep heavy metals out of landfills. That’s a good idea.
Take steps to reduce consumption of resources. That’s a smart move.
Tread lightly, and treasure the environment. This is wise.
But — PLEASE — disabuse yourself of the fantastic, and foolish notion that anything you do will have any impact whatsoever on “climate change”.
