WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) - An insurance company is balking at paying benefits to the husband of a slain woman who lived near Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton, saying he ''has not been ruled out as a suspect.''
Peggy Perez-Olivo, 55, was shot in the head Nov. 18, 2006, as she and her husband were driving from Manhattan toward their home just three doors from the Clintons in Chappaqua.
Carlos Perez-Olivo, 59, a disbarred lawyer, was shot in the abdomen. He said the shots were fired by a man who cut off their car on a dark road, then climbed in and shot both of them.
The road would not normally be part of the route home, but Perez-Olivo said he had detoured to find a gas station.
In a federal lawsuit filed Nov. 9, the Hartford Life Insurance Co. asks that a judge decide who should get the proceeds of two life insurance policies, totaling $467,000, on Peggy Perez-Olivo.
The policies named her husband as beneficiary and he submitted a claim, but the company says Perez-Olivo ''has not been ruled out as a suspect,'' the lawsuit states. If Perez-Olivo were to be convicted in his wife's killing, the money would go to the couple's three grown children, according to the lawsuit.

If someone cuts you off, are you going to slow down enough so they can exit their car and jump into yours? I'm just a novice, but sounds kind of fishy, IMHO.
Who dares say that disbarred lawyers don't still hang in the same 'hood??
No. The guy shot his wife in the brain and shot himself in the belly. Case closed as far as I’m concerned.
Two disbarred lawyers living in the same block.
The question has to be asked, so I might as well do it: Where was Bill that night?
Leni
Who knew Charles Stuart had a cousin in New York?
Hmm, the old “stranger killed-my-wife-but-only-wounded-me-on-the-out-of-the-way-route-home” story.
I tell ya, people really don’t understand how powerful a vehicle can be. Cut me off, block my exit, I’m ramming. back and forth...the vehicle will live long enough to get me away even if the engine boils cherry red with no cooling.
If you’re just a novice - rack up a few more hours of C.S.I. Miami and come back as an expert.
I remember this case. The early reaction was, “Gee, yet another neighbor of bill clinton bites the dust. What a coincidence!” I think it was about the time Buddy got run over, too.
But as the details came out, the other scenario became more likely, that this guy wounded himself after killing his wife, to deflect blame and collect the insurance.
At least that's the way it used to be. I assume it still is. I'm not a lawyer (and, yes, I am bragging).
Yup, I remember when Bill Clinton shot that Ron Brown fellow right in the head.
Birds of a feather......................
AFAIK, an affidavit is always required before an insurance company will collaterialize the policy.
If the man has complied with their policies, he should receive the benefit of the policy that they issued.
Granted the whole story sounds a bit fishy...like last month’s tuna out in the compost pile, but in the absence of proof to the contrary, the Insurer should pay up as per their policy.
Where is the weapon he used?
They're out the same amount of money no matter who gets it. For them to file a lawsuit to avoid paying the husband is extra cost out of their pocket. They must be doing this on principle since it makes no business sense.
Sounds very much like the Stuart case in Boston. Charles Stuart shot his pregnant wife Carol in the head, himself in the abdomen, handed off the gun to his brother, said a black man had done it. They were off their regular route home.
This is one of those situations that we don’t really know what the whole story is, the guy may have co-operated with the insurance investigation..but not quite enough...the police may be trying to use the insurer as leverage to have the guy give “just one more interview”.
Who knows really? The pay off amount isn’t huge 467,000, so it could be principle, or it could be trying to see if the guy will somehow incriminate himself and void any pay off from the insurance policy.
“if” the guy hired someone to do the killing, they will want some money, in cases like this there have been times when “persons unknown” have complained to the police about not being payed....
In the ditch. In his rectum. In the hands of the guy he paid to shoot them. Who knows? Who cares?
