Governor Huckabee will never allow amnesty
http://mikehuckabee.com/index.cfm?FuseAction=Issues.View&Issue_id=4 ^ | Mike Huckabee for President

Posted on 11/22/2007 11:38:31 PM PST by Kurt Evans

The Governor opposes and will never allow amnesty. He passionately rejected the amnesty bill that President Bush and Sen. McCain tried to ram through Congress this summer after secret meetings of an under-the-radar cabal of amnesty-loving senators.

The Governor opposed the misnamed DREAM Act, which was a nightmare because it would have put us on the slippery slope to amnesty for all. Because once we open that door even a crack, we’ll never get it closed again.

“Huckabee’s staff must have read Hunter’s site.”

Governor Huckabee has always been closer to Congressman Hunter’s position on illegal immigration than some of his critics would have us believe. For the record, I consider Congressman Hunter a great candidate and a great man. I hope you guys will at least read this:

Why I Cannot Support Mike Huckabee

I was skeptical and tried to keep an open mind about Mike Huckabee even after The Arkansas Leader praised him for raising taxes and said:

"He (Huckabee) shepherded greater tax hikes into law than any governor in Arkansas history — all for worthy causes, we think — and expanded government services for the poor. If it is a proud record, it is not one that is commonly associated with Republicans, at least not since the Rockefeller wing of the party went to its grave. From time to time Huckabee has betrayed some of the progressive compassion that marked the old liberal camp of the Republican Party...."

But when I read that Mike Huckabee believes that the hard-working families of Arkansas MUST flop open their wallets and hand their money over to the illegal hordes - - and that the illegal hordes should be allowed to VOTE! - - my decision was made; I decided then and there that Mike Huckabee was dead to me.

(From: Diggers Realm):

Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee Calls Immigration Reform Legislation Racist, Un-Christian [Update]

Arkansas is putting through legislation asking for verified identification for voting and denying taxpayer funded benefits and services to those illegally in our country. Sounds reasonable to me and Arizona put the same thing in place with Proposition 200 which was approved November 2004. Well apparently it doesn't sound reasonable or "Christian" to the current Governor of Arkansas Mike Huckabee.

(From: Arizona Republic):

Gov. Mike Huckabee on Thursday heaped criticism upon immigration legislation in the Arkansas Legislature, describing it as "inflammatory . . . race-baiting and demagoguery." He also challenged the Christian values of its main sponsor.

Huckabee said the bill, seeking to forbid public assistance and voting rights to undocumented immigrants, "inflames those who are racist and bigots and makes them think there's a real problem. But there's not."

The bill is modeled after Proposition 200, approved by Arizona voters in November. The Arkansas measure was filed by Republican Sens. Jim Holt of Springdale and Denny Altes of Fort Smith.

Huckabee, also a Republican and a Baptist minister, said Arkansans should be welcoming hard-working immigrants of all races. He singled out Holt, who often talks of his strong Christian beliefs, saying, "I drink a different kind of Jesus juice. My faith says don't make false accusations against somebody.

For Huckabee to wield Christianity as a political weapon like that is simply beyond the pale.

Finally, I read recently that Mike Huckabee is another dupe who has fallen for the "global warming" hoax.
If the man is that naive then I don't believe he is fit to be President and Commander-in-Chief.

"In the Bible, it's called don't bear false witness."

In response, Holt said he was hurt by the governor's questioning his faith.

"I just want to uphold the law and protect the benefits that apply to citizens," Holt said.

So as a governor, Mr. Huckabee was radically pro immigration until recently (running for president). He attacks a man who is a Christian conservative and a republican by attacking his faith. He uses a pejorative, liberal phrase for the Holy Eucharist when he tells the world he drinks a different "Jesus juice"?! He calls people who oppose illegal immigration racists and bigots.

If Mr. Huckabee were pinocchio, his nose would dwarf the California redwood trees. I guess he doesn't see that making false accusations and his lying are the same wrong thing.

The question I would like you to answer, if you could, is why are Mr. Huckabee and so many of his supporters trying pretend he is anti illegal immigration when it is clear that he is so pro amnesty that he even uses his religious beliefs to justify his way of thinking?

BS! As governor, he did all he could for illegals - short of the Amnesty he could not give them. He supported giving them drivers licenses, in-state tuition, social services, the ability to vote without proving citizenship and had tax payers fund a Mexican Consulate where they could more conveniently get Mexican IDs to use in commercial activities. All this he did while personally attacking the motives of those who stood up for America's sovereignty.

A vote for Huckabee IS a vote to continue the INVASION of illegals.

Politicians are like mutual funds. While there are never any guarantees, the best indicator of what they’ll DO in the future is what they’ve DONE in the past.

Huckabee has a long history of being pro-illegal and pro-amnesty, and this election year conversion doesn’t impress me for a minute. What it tells me is that this supposedly good Christian man is willing to obfuscate, pander and disavow years of previous policy positions to gain power. Disappointing, but not surprising.

You need to parse Huckabee's words. Huckabee favors legalizing the status of those already here, i.e., amnesty. Here is how Huckabee would deal with the 12 to 20 million illegal aliens already here:

I don't want to have an amnesty program. You can't let people break a law and say 'hey we're going to look the other way, don't worry about it, we're going to let you in, no problem.' People have to make restitution, there's got to be a penalty paid for the crime committed. But it ought to fit the crime; you don't put somebody in jail for ten years because they came across the border to make a living.

You make them pay something, you make them go through a process, you may put them in the back of the line for the process, but you create a process that's realistic. You don't say the back of the line starts and for the next 12 years you're going to be filling out paperwork.

What you do say is you're going to pay the fine, we're going to have a system that can be done in an orderly fashion, and you'll be able to be legal but we're not going to let you off scot free. That's important." March 27, 2007; RealClearPolitics.com

“Governor Huckabee has always been closer to Congressman Hunter’s position on illegal immigration than some of his critics would have us believe.”

I suggest you go post on a site where the lurkers/posters are less well informed. Huckabee is on record favoring amnesty, tuition for illegals, etc. The fact that he so shamelessly denies it now makes him even more of a flipflopper than Romney. Plus, he insults the intelligence of the GOP primary voter. He should peddle his snake oil at another carnival.

As For Huckabee, he is at the absolute bottom of my list of Presidential candidates, in the “would never vote for” category, below Romney and Giuliani. And I say that as a staunch prolifer.

Huckabee=the un-Fred Thompson.

In other words, Huck is absolutely devoid of principles, while principles are Fred’s only guide. The contrast between these two is stunning. Yet Huckabee masquerades as having principles by supporting the unpassable HLA and the unpassable marriage amendment. Fred opposes both methods but supports alternative and achievable ends for attaining the goals, that is: protection of life and marriage.

What bullcrap. Is Dano taking the day off down at Huckster HQ?

Huckabee promotes 'open door' policy at LULAC convention

Thursday, Jun 30, 2005

By Wesley Brown

Arkansas News Bureau

LITTLE ROCK - In a impassioned speech before hundreds of influential Hispanic civil rights leaders from across the nation, Gov. Mike Huckabee told a captive audience Wednesday that America is great because it has always opened it doors up to people seeking a better way of life.

"I would hope that no matter who we are, or where we are from, that America should always be a place that opens its arms, opens it heart, opens its spirit to people who come because they want the best for their families ...," Huckabee said as the largely Hispanic audience gave him a standing ovation.

Huckabee was the keynote speaker, along with Tyson Foods Inc. Chairman and CEO John Tyson, at a noon luncheon of the League of United Latin American Citizens, which is holding its 76th annual convention in Little Rock.

About 10,000 political, community and business leaders, along with exhibitors and speakers are in Little Rock attending the convention at the Statehouse Convention Center. The convention started Monday and runs through Saturday.

Although he never actually talked about the U.S. or Arkansas immigration policy, Huckabee made it very clear where he stood on the issue. In his opening remarks, he said the nation will need to address the concerns of the Hispanic community because of its growing influence and population base.

"Pretty soon, Southern white guys like me may be in the minority," Huckabee said jokingly as the crowd roared in laughter.

He told the LULAC delegates that their presence in the state's capital city was very important because Arkansas has one of the fastest growing Hispanic populations in the nation. "Your gathering is so very significant for our state," Huckabee said. "We are delighted to have you."

Despite several light moments, Huckabee did not stray away from several controversial issues that made him a target of criticism during the recently ended 85th General Assembly. He said Arkansas needs to make the transition from a traditional Southern state to one that recognizes and cherishes diversity "in culture, in language and in population."

"This is an issue that is going to require extraordinary efforts on both sides of the border, particularly those coming from Mexico," Huckabee said of verifying the status of illegal aliens. "But I am confident that our government will recognize that we should accommodate people who wish to provide the best opportunities for their families (and) employers so that we can make sure our economy has the necessary work force."

During the legislation session, Huckabee criticized an immigration bill by Republican senators Jim Holt of Springdale and Denny Altes of Fort Smith as un-Christian, un-American, irresponsible and anti-life. Senate Bill 206, which died in the Senate, would have required proof of citizenship to register to vote and also force state agencies to report suspected cases of people living in the country illegally. Holt, R-Springdale, replied later to Huckabee's comments that Christian charity does not include turning a blind eye to lawbreaking.

Huckabee's current positions and website seem to conflict with his political history for the last decade.

From March, 2006, Washington Post:

"I tend to think that the rational approach is to find a way to give people a pathway to citizenship. You shouldn't ignore the law or ignore those who break it. But by the same token, I think it's a little disingenuous when I hear people say they should experience the full weight of the law in every respect with no pathway, because that's not something we practice in any other area of criminal justice in this country."

but, but dot dot dot, it's not really "amnesty". The illegal immigrants will pay a $50 fine, get two points on their state issued drivers licenses and 2 hours of community service. They are paying a price for citizenship. It's NOT "amnesty".

Sure thing, Huck. The President also denies his "path to citizenship" for tens of millions of illegals consitutes amnesty. ...so it's one of those "it all depends on what the meaning of the word 'amnesty' is" situations.

I don't believe any of them on this issue. ...except for Hunter and Tancredo, of course.
