In about minutes, polling booths across the eastern side of Australia will close, and counting will begin in the 2007 Australian election. I - and anybody else - who wants to become involved - will be posting in this thread updates based on Australian TV concerning the count.

tough question here.. Assuming Labor has taken control of the Aussie government.. how much of a “threat” to U.S./Aussie relations is this? Can you link me to some campaign speeches or platform data for this new Aussue Government.. In particular their view on the Global War on Terror.. thanks..

Honestly, it’s hard to say at this point.
Rudd intends to pull some Australian troops out of Iraq, but he’ll leave most of our troops in theatre.
He also may boost our numbers in Afghanistan.
He’s tried to give the impression to Australian voters, that he’s going to pull out more than checking his actual policies suggests he plans to do.
In my view, he’s having to cater to the anti-American, anti-war elements of his party, far more than he’d like to. So I’m not sure where he will go once elected.
thanks for the quick analysis.. makes me feel a bit better... I think.. certainly would have like to see a STRONG ally in the War on Terror.. all politics aside the War on Terror is VITAL to our very SURVIAL .. period.. sadly the left just chooses not to ADMIT it.. and is unwilling to do WHATEVER IT TAKES to win it !!... but deep down in their bleeding hearts I think they KNOW it... that’s my analysis in a nut shell

I think that it won’t take long for the left and the unions to drag Rudd to the loony left.
What chance of seeing a real implosion if the loony left gets a good solid grip?
I hope Bush takes the initiative to work with him to make sure that does not happen.. we need every ally we can get in the GWOT.
It will take at least 3 or 4 elections before Australia will vote Labor out.
If the loony left gets a good solid grip on the country we’ll see a real implosion of the economy and the country.
