“I have no romantic ideals when it comes to competing predators. Folks that want wolves can import them into their city parks, and deal with them”

Indeed. SO EASY to brainwash folks with lots of pretty pictures.

Truth is the non-profit groups and the government programs rely on the mythical notions of these animals to keep the emotional and financial support intact.

I would have respect for them and their objectives if they showed integrity.

Small landowners that feed their cattle a combination of pasture, the leftover stumps in harvested fields, bailed feed that’s hauled in, and grain feed that’s hauled in.

That’s not ranching. NOt to me anyway.

If they showed integrity, they would be thrown off of the planet for wanting to make animals supreme over humans.

What do you consider “ranching”?

Someone with lots of land that isn’t suitable for farming is a rancher. Someone that can “round up the herd” by walking around on foot for an hour is not a rancher

FYI, “Ranchers” also send their cattle to feed lots, and during the winter feed their cattle bailed hay.
The large operations you are thinking of are mostly gone, but there never were that many Bonanza sized ones in the first place. Most were small operations. There are many smaller streams, if you will, of cattle going to the feed lots. The feed lots don’t breed them or raise them to weaning age.

I was born in nebraska. So your post might as well be in a foreign language as far as I’m concerned.

Look up cherry county nebraska.

Borzoi, or Russian Wolfhounds, hunted in packs

A friend of mine in N.W. Kansas hunts coyotes with greyhounds.......usually six at a time.

To me, you don't know what you are talking about.

Folks living where you do (montana?) and where my Kansan friend lives do all kinds of things that city folks who have never spent time in those parts would never understand.

all there is to ranching is to turn the stock out to graze and count the money after slaughter

I understand what you're saying. you should have mentioned the the round up, the tagging, innoculations, do it yourself veterinary, helping with problem births. And if your cattle aren't free grazers, then you've fence repairs, the daily rolling out the feed bails.........thats just a start.

In turkey they use three different dogs to hunt a wolf.

The pointer is used to track and find the wolf.

The “turkmen tazi” is used to chase the wolf(like a cross between a borzoi and a greyhound)

Then a special kind of kangal(anatolian shepherd) is used to kill the wolf.

If you like to read about dog breed and dog history/legend, you will find this fascinating: “THE STEPPE MONSTER”
