Farmer Cuts off Right Arm With Pocket Knife to Save Life

Sunday, November 25, 2007

A farmer from Kershaw County, South Carolina, cut off his own arm after it got stuck in a piece of equipment, WYFF4.com reported Sunday.

The nightmare for Sampson Parker began when he noticed a pice of cornstalk stuck in a farm machine. When he tried to release the cornstalk, his hand got stuck in the machine.

After about an hour of being trapped, with no response to his calls for help, Parker's arm became numb. He He reached for his John Deere pocket knife and started cutting his fingers.

According to the report, shortly after Parker began his dramatic rescue, a fire broke out. He then did the only thing he could to save his life—sacrifice his right arm.

With little-to-no time to spare, Parker went straight for his arm, cutting away from the bone as fast as he could. Once he severed his arm from his body, he managed to drive himself to a road where a firefighter helped him with the injury.

Completely, totally self-inflicted wound. Another farmer trying to save one minute, ends up losing a lot more than a little time. I'm stunned that this still happens in this day and age.

Yes, you really have to hand it to him.

Several years ago a doctor in Houston jumped into an elevator as the doors were closing. The doors closed on his head and the elevator went down, jerking his head from his body.

I always wait for the next elevator now.

I’ve always said that is how I’m going to die. I’m one of those dimwits who always sticks her hand in a closing elevator door. I should know better, but I do it every time.

although you meant it in the figurative sense, this should take care of the awkwardness of literally handing it to him.

I know, look how many people are killed trying to beat the train at a crossing, or run a red light just so they won't have to wait through another cycle, pass another car on a yellow line, slip off a ladder they didn't take the time to set properly, get hit by a car while they jaywalked instead of going to the crosswalk, or..............

“Why should I carry a cell phone?” Reason #643.

I personally am stuck in the 80s and have never carried a cell phone, but here’s another excellent case for taking the plunge.

I used to stick my hand in there too, but not since the doctor lost his head. Usually hitting the button on the wall will open the doors.

His arm is caught in farm equipment.
Then a FIRE breaks out.

Tough day.
