Washington The Club for Growth praised Senator Fred Thompson for the release of his pro-growth tax reform plan this morning on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace. The seven-part plan is the most comprehensive tax reform plan offered to date by a presidential candidate. The plan will:
Permanently extend the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts Permanently repeal the Death Tax Repeal the Alternative Minimum Tax Reduce the corporate tax rate to no more than 27% Permanently extend small business expensing Update and simplify depreciation schedules Expand taxpayer choice
Most commendable is Thompsons plan to expand taxpayer choice by adopting the Republican Study Committees recent plan, called the Taxpayer Choice Act. This plan will give American taxpayers the choice of opting into a simplified tax code that contains only two rates rather than deal with the current monstrosity known as the U.S. tax code.
While other candidates have adopted pieces of this plan, Thompson goes a step further by offering a specific corporate tax reduction and offering taxpayers the option of a simple tax plan, said Club for Growth President Pat Toomey. His plan is based on the fundamental fact that lower rates and simpler rules across the board promote economic freedom and enhance economic growth. This is the kind of plan economic conservatives can rally around.
I’m liking the guy more all the time.
That's the problem with being a tongue wagging liberal politician, lies and half baked ideas are hard to keep track of, while Fred just sticks to the issues and what he believes are solutions to them, which doesn't require any special talent and a team of advisers to make sure they don't trip over their own tongues flip flopping.
Your handlers for these spam threads on Club For Growth need to check the other thread on this subject and read
post #203.
If you are a conservative, you would not want you candidate associated with this group.
Look into the background, including they think illegals are no real problem.
I would rather my candidate be bashed by this group than supported by it
Maybe you’d want your candidate to differ with them on immigration, but on fundamental issues of taxes and the role of government in the economy they’re probably the best watchdog group we have.
You might want to really look into their background.
Club for Growth is concerned with fiscal matters, and their opinion on thompson’s tax plan is important.
I could give a shiite what they think about non-fiscal matters.
Now crawl back in your hole.
Just noting who started the personal slurs on this thread. SoCalPol, your opinion has been duly marginalized. Maybe you'll get a 'get out of the hole' free card one day if you keep quiet. If the club gave their ratings on fiscal issues by judging just those issues, it would be fine, but they don't. They seem to throw in their open border, trade at any cost, libertarian founders slant into the mix. I'll look at Thompson's proposal. We could use a good one. He's come up with some decent ideas lately.
Club for Growth (like most organizations) has their weaknesses but is generally sound on the whole.
Clever like a fox, FRed is.
Piece by piece, FRed is laying the groundwork for the most in depth, intricate, and common sense platform of SECURITY.UNITY.PROSPERITY of all the others combined.
It will make one hell’uva package when he’s done.
“I would rather my candidate be bashed by this group than supported by it”
Funny you should say that. The last thing I read from them on your guy mentioned his BIG PORK BARREL SPENDING.
Do not condemn the Club for ChiCom Growth. They carry a lot of clout around these parts. Fred voted in the Senate to support their foreign worker agenda so of course they are praising him. If they thought for a second his going from “some aspirations of citizenship” to “Mr. Detailed Plan” was sincere; they would throw him under the bus, yesterday.
Voting for MFN for the ChiComs is always a big plus as well. I lend some gravitas to the ACU but none of the rest, not even the Values and Pro-Family organizations, anymore. They all either believe the wrong things or are willing to compromise what they believe for political expediency. Of course, that is their right, as it is mine to ignore them.
Wishing doesn’t make it so.
You’re right, they don’t like Hunter but who cares what the Club for ChiCom Growth thinks?
Hunter was never really a member of their group nor the “CENTRIST COALITION”, for that matter. You know the coalition with such titans of conservatism as Thompson and Jeffords? Fred the Federalist and strict Constitutionalist tried to write PORK BARREL SPENDING into the Constitution. He not only voted for, but was a contributor to McCain-Feingold or CFR as it is known. I suppose it is ok to tamper with 1st Amendment Rights? His heart was in the right place, after all. I agree pork has to be stopped, but to attempt to write it into our constitution by Mr. Federalism himself; Hypocrite, anyone?
Why don’t you post FRed’s words that went with his support of CFR, or are you afraid to?
Do you have any sources for FRed’s “tried to write PORK BARREL SPENDING into the Constitution” attempt?
I am not quite sure what you mean by "posting Fred's words that went with his support". I would think that irrelevant to the issue at hand. His accompanying sentiments and comments are not law, CFR, is law. If someone steals my wallet and says, "I sure hope you didn't need the money"; It makes no difference to me. My wallet is gone, CFR is law and we will all have to learn to live with it, for now.

That doesn’t pass the sniff-test. Give us a link. We need to know the author and we need some context. Sounds like high-grade fertilizer to me.
