Huckabee talks Jesus, not politics

FOUNTAIN INN, South Carolina (CNN) — Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee stepped into a familiar role on Sunday morning: that of Baptist minister.

Huckabee, who was a minister before he served two and a half terms as governor as Arkansas, took to the stage for about half an hour at two Baptist churches in South Carolina and told the congregations: "I am here today to talk about Jesus and not to talk about me."

"I always try to remind people that there is a place for politics, but when I come to church, it's to worship," he said at Gateway Baptist Church in Irmo, where he was mistakenly introduced as "Governor Hucklebee..."

The two easiest ways to get power for a person with some talking ability and scholarship is through politics or religion.

Going with both should throw up a large red flag.

"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles? So, every sound tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears evil fruit. A sound tree cannot bear evil fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus you will know them by their fruits. Not every one who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father Who is in heaven. On that day many will say to Me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your Name, and cast out demons in Your Name, and do many mighty works in Your Name?' And then will I declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you evildoers.'" (Matthew 7:15-23 RSV)

"Take heed that no one leads you astray. For many will come in My Name."

Christian Conservatives beware, Duckabee is a FALSE PROPHET!

Phyllis Schlafly, said this about Governor Huckabee: "He destroyed the conservative movement in Arkansas, and left the Republican Party a shambles." She went on to say, "Yet some of the same evangelicals who sold us on George W. Bush as a 'compassionate conservative' are now trying to sell us on Mike Huckabee."

I have a lot of respect for Phyllis Schlafly and her opinion.

Not only is he a fiscal liberal, but I don’t think that the President should be running around the country preaching about Jesus. Leave that to the ministers.

Just like they sold us Jimmah.

In the Evangelical-conservative political marriage, both sides have been cheating - and it's not at all clear who's fooling who.

If I knew nothing about what the Bible said I would have come away from the preaching still NOT knowing anything about what the Bible says.

I agree. Mixing politics and religion means those who disagree with your politics will assume they also must oppose Christianity, and vice-versa.

Your beliefs about God will invariably shape your world view, but preaching while running for President can only end in mud getting tossed at Jesus.

Faith and Politics

The First Amendment requires that expressions of faith be neither prohibited nor preferred. We should not banish religion from the public square, but should guarantee access to all voices and views. We should share and debate our faith, but never seek to impose it. When discussing faith and politics, we should honor the "candid" in candidate - I have much more respect for an honest atheist than a disingenuous believer.

My faith is my life - it defines me. My faith doesn't influence my decisions, it drives them. For example, when it comes to the environment, I believe in being a good steward of the earth. I don't separate my faith from my personal and professional lives.

Real faith makes us humble and mindful, not of the faults of others, but of our own. It makes us less judgmental, as we see others with the same frailties we have. Faith gives us strength in the face of injustice and motivates us to do our best for "the least of us."

Our nation was birthed in a spirit of faith - not a prescriptive one telling us whether to believe, but one acknowledging that a providence pervades our world.

The guy is running for President, but can't stay away from the pulpit to start preaching about Jesus. We know he can do that, what we don't know is if he could be a decent GOP Presidential candidate, and this tends to show that he wouldn't.
