ANNAPOLIS, Maryland (CNN) -- Israel is "ready now for a deal," said an Israeli official attending Tuesday's U.S.-brokered Mideast summit aimed at laying the groundwork for future peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas have "very good chemistry," the official said, adding that he is hopeful a document "will be finalized before we leave Washington Wednesday night."

from CNN’s home page:

Israelis, Palestinians agree on negotiation plan

President Bush today announced the Israelis and Palestinians have “agreed to immediately launch” negotiations aimed at concluding a peace treaty. Bush and top officials from more than 40 nations are gathering in Annapolis, Maryland, to get commitments for the first formal Israeli-Palestinian peace talks in seven years.

A sad epilogue to the “Bush Doctrine”.

Bush just gave a strong speech, was very impressive.

Lets pray that there are results here, that the Palestinians end terrorism and embrace freedom, democracy and ultimately statehood.

this is just ridiculous

Let’s sign a peace treaty, give away land, yet the real threat, Hamas, still says they won’t abide by the treaty.

So where does that leave Israel?

Evidently Olmart is deaf, dumb and blind.....I can’t believe that he actually thinks the rag heads will stop at any “deal”. They only want to see that every Jew is killed, what kind of “deal” is that?

They didn't in Gaza, did they?

This is bad.

Israel is "ready now for a deal,"

One shudders to think what more Israel will give up in return for the false promise of peace. How much more land; how much more Israeli blood?

It saddens me that Bush is hosting this farce and will try to coerce Israel to give up more land and more rights (to survive) as did Presidents Carter and Clinton before him. One wonders why Israel continues to participate in these farces knowing that the outcome is always negative for them? IMO, it's time for Israel to tell us all to butt out and let them deal with the Muslim murderers in the only language the Muzzies understand - massive response to their border incursions.

True. We can only work with what we have. Thankfully our leaders have not sat down with the terrorists of Hamas.

And Gaza was supposed to be the test case. All the Arab squatters had to do was behave themselves for a while. ...which evidently was asking far too much.

But not surprisingly we're rewarding them anyway.

Gaza was the test case. The test was successful, so it appears.

Israel has been “ready of a deal” for a long time. Unfortunately, the OTHER side never manages to come across.

It’s too bad he’s not on the ballot next year so we can tell him what we think of him.
