ANNAPOLIS, Maryland (CNN) -- Israel is "ready now for a deal," said an Israeli official attending Tuesday's U.S.-brokered Mideast summit aimed at laying the groundwork for future peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas have "very good chemistry," the official said, adding that he is hopeful a document "will be finalized before we leave Washington Wednesday night."

Yeah President Reagan really dealt with the mideast problem didn’t he? What did he do? Oh, that is right, when we had 300 sleeping Marines blown up in their sleep because the guards at the front gates of their base could not carry loaded weapons, he tucked tail and ran from the mideast. GW has been the only POTUS to take the mideast head on and fight the radical islamists and terrorists.

"Squeeze their hands as hard as you can and say...Legacy, Legacy, Legacy"

Just pathetic.

We’re talking about Israel here, aren’t we? Do you have high hopes for this summit? Do you think that carving up Israel and allowing the arabs to continue to deny a ‘jewish state’ even exists sounds like a recipe for success? Maybe if your dream is that one day there is no Israel, G-d forbid, then this summit must sound dynomite to you.

Lets pray that there are results here, that the Palestinians end terrorism and embrace freedom, democracy and ultimately statehood.

They won't. Bet on it. And that isn't that this is about anyway. It is about sacrificing Israel yet again...this time to please our Saudi masters and manufacture a Bush legacy based on yet more empty Arab promises. I pray this conference fails miserably.

So where does that leave Israel?

With an enemy state they can declare war on??

Before I ever put ink to paper with the Palestinians, I would want to see a year straight with no terror attacks from the territories, and see the Palestinian authorities hand over to the IDF, all terrorperps within the Palestinian territories.

Until the Palestinian people and authorities show by their own actions that they have wholly turned from the radical Islamic mindset of terrorism, and do it for an extended period, I would not dare sign any kind of accord with them or let down my guard in the least.

Instead I would take an even harder, more firm line. Like: Any terror attack from the territories will lead to a one kilometer expansion of Israel soveriegn territory into the respective Palestinain territory and a removal of all Palestinians from said annexation...to be enforced by force of arms The more they attack, the less land they have. When they stop all attacks for a year straight...then we would talk about some kind of accord.

But that's just my own opinion.

We are talking about Israel. I do not know what is going to come out of this summit, either do you. Something has to be done though. No POTUS has supported Israel and its right to exist more than GW. That is a fact.

You praise Reagan but bash GW. When terrorists came a calling GW confronted them. Reagan did not. Reagan encouraged them by fleeing from Lebanon.

Yeah we did a very, very limited engagement, just like Clinton lobbying some cruise missiles into an aspirin factory.

Never ceases to amaze me how many of you are so stubborn on this... What's the alternative? Endless occupation? Until they're given the right to vote and over-run the Israelis at the polls?

The vast majorities of Israelis want it, the Israeli leaders want this... What the hell's your problem?

I said nothing about Reagan’s response to Beirut. Having a picture of Reagan on my homepage doesn’t mean I think everything he ever did was perfect. And I most certainly will criticize President Bush for this mad dive at a legacy. It’s PATHETIC, AND SO IS RICE. That doesn’t mean I don’t like President Bush, as you can also see from my homepage, rooney. But the so-called palestinians are lobbing missiles into Israel and attempting suicide bombings nearly every day from GAZA, so there is no precedent for giving land to those terrorists and expecting PEACE.

Yup. We're pretty stubborn about letting Jews stay alive. The alternative is to fight them and not to die. They have the right to vote, but recently, the Israeli birth rate has begun to exceed the Israeli Arab birth rate. The vast majorities of Israelis want it, the Israeli leaders want this... What the hell's your problem?

Vast majority? Wrong. I doubt there is a majority at all and I haven't seen on independent polling organization supporting this contention. "Israeli leaders"? What Israeli leaders? Olmert? A feckless, corrupt, stupid, desperate, despised creep who couldn't get elected dog catcher in an election today?

I'll tell you what the hell's my problem: Nonsense like the idea that the Arabs have any intention of making peace with Israel, which is the predicate of your comment. Unless you are totally ignorant of all the conditions that exist which make this conference a farce, there is something deeply wrong with your perception of the facts.

GW legacy will be fighting and confronting terrorism. He has supported Israel more than any other POTUS. That is a fact. He will not put Israel’s head on a chopping block for a Legacy. He is no Clinton.
