ANNAPOLIS, Maryland (CNN) -- Israel is "ready now for a deal," said an Israeli official attending Tuesday's U.S.-brokered Mideast summit aimed at laying the groundwork for future peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas have "very good chemistry," the official said, adding that he is hopeful a document "will be finalized before we leave Washington Wednesday night."

He will not put Israel’s head on a chopping block for a Legacy.

Condi would, and George would back her.

GW has supported Israel more than any other POTUS including Reagan, and he will continue to stand by them. BDS impaired?

I happen to agree with you about W probably being the most pro-Israel President ever. Which is why it is so damn exasperating to see what he’s doing now, which is precisely “putting Israel’s head on a chopping block”. Is it for a legacy? No one truly knows, but it is otherwise so totally incomprehensible in every respect, that it is hard to imagine another motivation.

"Before I ever put ink to paper with the Palestinians, I would want to see a year straight with no terror attacks from the territories, and see the Palestinian authorities hand over to the IDF, all terrorperps within the Palestinian territories. Until the Palestinian people and authorities show by their own actions that they have wholly turned from the radical Islamic mindset of terrorism, and do it for an extended period, I would not dare sign any kind of accord with them or let down my guard in the least. Instead I would take an even harder, more firm line. Like: Any terror attack from the territories will lead to a one kilometer expansion of Israel soveriegn territory into the respective Palestinain territory and a removal of all Palestinians from said annexation...to be enforced by force of arms The more they attack, the less land they have. When they stop all attacks for a year straight...then we would talk about some kind of accord."

Amen and right on!!! Any US President or Israeli Prime Minster who said those words would get my vote and a standing ovation!!! I sure wish there was a US President of Israeli Prime Minister that would say those words!

GW will not put Israel in danger of annihilation. We assisted the Israelis with taking out the nuke site in Syria. GW will strike Iran before he leaves office to remove or set back their nuke program to protect Israel and us.

"I most certainly will criticize President Bush for this mad dive at a legacy. It’s PATHETIC, AND SO IS RICE. [snip] ... the so-called palestinians are lobbing missiles into Israel and attempting suicide bombings nearly every day from GAZA, so there is no precedent for giving land to those terrorists and expecting PEACE."

Right on, Cinnamon Girl!!!!!!

I’m very well aware of the situation... The way I see it, it can’t go on forever in the current state... Give them their own state, build a wall around it, let them collapse in their own misery... Take away their excuse for not providing a damn thing to society... Something needs to be done, this isn’t maintainable forever.

BDS impaired?

No, I have tremendous respect for the ability of the Department of State to screw things up royally.

Historically impaired?

Been there, done that in Gaza. Israel still getting shelled daily. Repeat after me: the "Palestinians" want to kill the Jews; the "Palestinians" want to kill the Jews; the "Palestinians" want to kill the Jews; the "Palestinians" want to kill the Jews; the "Palestinians" want to kill the Jews; the "Palestinians" want to kill the Jews; the "Palestinians" want to kill the Jews; the "Palestinians" want to kill the Jews; the "Palestinians" want to kill the Jews; the "Palestinians" want to kill the Jews; the "Palestinians" want to kill the Jews;

When you have repeated this until it becomes part of the fixed reality in your own mind, you will recognize that there is no "peaceful" solution with such people. It's a grim reality, yes, but it is the reality. Better to accept it and deal with it than to slowly commit suicide at "piece" conferences.

Wow! Can you share more of your magical powers with me? What stocks should I buy? Who's going to win the fifth race at Belmont? How 'bout the point spread for all the football games this week? The last time Jews trusted someone else to assure them against annihilation, it didn't turn out so good, remember? Your rather stunning absolute confidence and foreknowledge of GW's plans for the future notwithstanding, I seem to remember that Israel alone knocked out Iraq's nuclear facility and they're still waiting for the thank you card from the White House. I trust W on this like I do on immigration. How much fence has NOT been built under the last round of legislation?
