Rodney King shot in San Bernardino

10:41 AM PST on Thursday, November 29, 2007

By PAUL LAROCCO
The Press-Enterprise

Rodney King was apparently shot and wounded on a San Bernardino street corner late Wednesday night before biking home to Rialto to report the incident, police said.

King, the 42-year-old man who gained national fame when his 1991 beating by Los Angeles police was caught on videotape, called Rialto police at 11:39 p.m. to report the shooting, said Sgt. Don Lewis.

He had been struck in the face and arm with a shotgun, Lewis said. King reported that the shooting occurred at 5th Street and Meridian Avenue in San Bernardino, just east of the Rialto city line.

After police arrived at King's Jackson Street home, King and others inside appeared intoxicated, Lewis said, and few were cooperative in providing information.

Rialto officers contacted San Bernardino police to take over the investigation. King was then taken to a local hospital, where his condition is unknown this morning. The wounds were not believed to be life-threatening, Lewis said.

No further information on what caused the shooting was available. Since gaining his fame, King has had several brushes with Inland police agencies, most recently a 2005 arrest on suspicion of domestic violence.

He had been struck in the face and arm with a shotgun

If he'd been shot in the chest, he'd say "Can't we all just get a lung?"

Don’t bother asking

lol.

I'm guessing I'm on a need to know basis and....

... not like I really care anyway. I'm just remembering he was a frequent FReeper.

But no more, huh?

***May 28, 1991: King picked up a transvestite prostitute in Hollywood who happened to be under surveillance by LAPD officers. King and the prostitute were observed in an alley engaging in sexual activity. When the prostitute spotted the officers, King sped away, nearly hitting one of them. King later explained that he thought the vice officers were robbers trying to kill him. No charges were filed.***

The question is... who was receiving?

Wikipedia; star-crossed :

“Star-crossed” or “star-crossed lovers” is a reference to those who fight against (or cross) their fate, which is written in the stars. The phrase is first recorded by William Shakespeare in his play Romeo and Juliet.

I’m thinking that if the cops knew who was making the report at the time that it might take them 8, maybe 10 hours to show up.

At any rate, the last I heard Rodney was teaming up with someone, along with his million or so he’d gotten from the Kalifornia taxpayers, and making a rap record. Certainly a wise choice for someone trying to go legit!

I didn’t realize the writer’s strike was capable of forcing the news industry into reruns. First OJ, now Rodney King. All we need now is General Schwarzkopf giving war updates during prime time again.

What gets me is that everybody believes his story. Out riding a bike ... and was shot with a shot gun and then peddles home to call police. When the police arrive a he and his buddies are drunk ... and they are not real cooperative with police questioning.

I bet the whole thing went down in his house!
