Giuliani's Mistress Used N.Y. Police as Taxi Service
ABC News: The Blotter ^ | November 29, 2007 3:18 PM | Richard Esposito

Well before it was publicly known he was seeing her, then-married New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani provided a police driver and city car for his mistress Judith Nathan, former senior city officials tell the Blotter on ABCNews.com.

"She used the PD as her personal taxi service," said one former city official who worked for Giuliani.

New York papers reported in 2000 that the city had provided a security detail for Nathan, who became Giuliani's third wife after his divorce from Donna Hanover, who also had her own police security detail at the same time.

The former city officials said Giuliani expanded the budget for his security detail at the time. Politico.com reported yesterday that many of the security expenses were initially billed to obscure city agencies, effectively hiding them from oversight.

The former officials told ABCNews.com the extra costs involved overtime and per diem costs for officers traveling with Giuliani to secret weekend rendezvous with Nathan in the fashionable Hamptons resort area on Long Island.

When the New York City comptroller began to question the accounting, Mayor Giuliani's office declined to provide details to city security, officials told ABCNews.com today.

"The Comptroller's Office made repeated requests for the information in 2001 and 2002 but was informed that due to security concerns the information could not be provided," a spokesperson for the comptroller's office said.

Appearing in public for the first time today, Giuliani told ABC News the accusations he assigned a police security detail to his mistress and helped to hide the expenses in the mammoth New York City budget "a pre-debate hit job."

"I'm sorry, but I still don't understand why they filed these expenses the way they did," he said.

Former officials close to Giuliani say he had "zero" to do with how the police security expenses for Judith Nathan, who he since married, were accounted in the city budget.

The Giuliani campaign said it would also provide a former deputy mayor, Randy Mastro, to respond to the allegations later today.

Giuliani is expected to appear on CNBC at 6 p.m. today to answer questions about the accounting procedures.

The analogy to Clinton is not apt.

Clinton used the police to procure women, and later used private detectives, managed by Hillary, to trash them.

Rudy used the police to protect his girlfriend, not to trash her.

Whatever you think of Rudy, it’s preposterous to say he’s as bad as Clinton. Nobody is as bad as “you might wanna put some ice on that” Clinton.

“Honestly, someone is grasping at straws here. If Rudi was boinking Judi, then there’s a legit issue of whether she could be held for ransom or blackmail. Security is called for.”

You. Have. Got. To. Be. Kidding!

It’s not a taxpayer’s responsibility to pay for the security of a Mayor’s mistress. Hisoner made a very handsome salary, let him pay for it.

I can just see ghouleeannie as POTUS and, what, 2, 3 or more Monica Lewinsky scandals with it.

Cigar, anyone?

then-married New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani provided a police driver and city car for his mistress Judith Nathan

then married Slick Willie provided Betty Currie to sneak Lewinsky into the Oval Office, to come in on weekend days solely to admit Lewinsky, to ask the Secret Service not to record Lewinsky's visits, to wait outside the Oval Office study while Clinton and Lewinsky cavorted and then leave with them so there wouldn't be "any perceptions" of untoward behavior.

This is another example of why the left in this country wants him to be the candidate of the Republican party. They have all this dirt and more on him. I believe that he is the only candidate that Hillary CAN beat. Why do you all think the Democratic shills in the MSM are pushing for him and ignoring/smearing almost(I think they may have dirt on Mitt too) all of our other candidates.

The issue isn't that the costs were incurred, but that they were hidden. The bills were assigned to other departments, in order to keep the truth hidden. It's lying, and it's corruption.

It's always the cover-up that gets you. Ask Nixon, ask Clinton.

Good point. If Rooty tried to hide his actions, that's evidence of mens rea -- a guilty mind. He could justify his actions, and folks would be inclined to buy it. He's a likable dude, and NYC is a much nicer place to visit than it was before he took office. But if he's going to extremes to hide something, that raises the presumption that there is something to hide.

The expense was no big deal. If Giuliani took steps to hide the expense, then you just have to wonder why.

You have to have a mayor who will allow the police to do their job. The mayor always takes the heat or credit for that.

Yes. Rudy’s an undisciplined sex hound who cheated on all his wives.

“Unfaithful to his wives, unfaithful to his family, unfaithful to his constituents, unfaithful to his office, unfaithful to the taxpayers, unfaithful to the constitution, unfaithful to you and me. No thanks.”

Can’t find one flaw in that argument.

Are you a fiction writer? That above is Pulitzer material.

Uh no, the police take the heat or the credit for that. Also, allowing someone to do their job isn’t one of those “tough decisions” requiring a great deal of brain power.

Rudy is a lot closer to Bill Clinton than he admits.

Wasnt' Rudy seperated at the time he started dating his current wife?

Lying and cheating get easier with practice and he's had plenty of practice. Do people really think he saves his dishonesty only for his personal life? I admire how he handled NYC after 911, but this is a man with character issues.

And your point is that they are sort of similar at the same time a little different?

Didn’t Rudy cite ‘health problems’ when he pulled out of the first NY Senate race against Herself, leaving Lazio to charge into the guns of the Clinton Heights?
About 1999/2000 when he was boinking this new gal?
I know prostate cancer is a serious thing, but do we know for sure?
Something is really fishy here.
Feel free to fix my thinking if I’m way off the mark.
