Wave Of Illegals Turns Into Tsunami
Investor's Business Daily ^ | November 29, 2007

Posted on 11/29/2007 11:27:16 PM PST by Zakeet

A new study suggests that the wave of illegal aliens is having a more serious impact — particularly on welfare spending — than commonly believed. Is anyone in Washington listening?

The study by the Center for Immigration Studies notes that the estimated 10.3 million people who've come here since 2000 represent the greatest-ever migration to the U.S. over a seven-year period. Over the next decade, at current rates, another 15 million will arrive — the largest immigrant wave in our history.

Not bad for a country that supposedly is one of the most unpopular on Earth. That said, the study also notes that more than half the newcomers so far this decade — 5.6 million — have come illegally.

Of America's 39 million immigrants, representing 12.6% of our total population, at least 12 million are illegal. Most, but not all, come from Mexico and Central America.

What exactly do the numbers mean? Well, for one thing, they mean we're importing a lot of poverty — and it's skewing the debate over key public policy issues.

How often, for example, have we been hit over the head with the scary statistic that "48 million Americans don't have health insurance." But the statement is only partly true.

According to CIS, 34% of all immigrant households — or 13.3 million — don't have health insurance. And of those, 8.3 million are here illegally. They make up 18% of the nation's uninsured, if you count their American-born children.

The crisis of the uninsured, in other words, is in significant part an imported one — one that is costing untold billions.

Illegals are becoming a semi-permanent, welfare-dependent underclass.

Many more facts and figures are presented in the article.

I’d call the illegals beggers, but it’s not fair, they don’t beg. They demand.

I can’t blame these illegals because they have been sent ‘compassionate’ pass that taxpayer plate embossed invitations.

These kinds of issues are where We the People have an increasing problem with Washington....increases in welfare dependents are GOOD for DC...more need for federal bureaucrats and funding...more opportunity to increase agency spending..increase the budget, expand committee power.etc.etc.etc...it is serious. It is why the concept of enforcing existing immigration law is foreign to Washington...and why they’d rather continue playing smoke and mirrors with another piece of legislation.

Is there any reason Mexico might have for trying to keep their poor? They've got too many poor people and a bunch of them want to leave and many of those will send back money once they get to America. Must sound pretty good to the Mexican government.

Are there any reasons a poor Mexican might want to take part in all the freebies here? Heck yeah, and we give them more and more reasons constantly. Judging by all the freebies, our PTB love illegals as much, if not more than their fellow Americans. Besides, the worst thing we would do to them is send them back home. Must sound pretty good to a poor Mexican citizen.

This is an American problem and I am hopeful it becomes a campaign issue. The more people know, the more urgent it will become to actually solve illegal immigration. It can be done. The solutions are obvious for those willing to see them.

We really only need a few miles of 10’ cyclone fence for a large square enclosure that is open on one end, the southern end.
Foreigners breaking our laws have a choice of a tent and `three hots and a cot’ or going home. And an American government that was serious about our budget whould start sending the bills to Mexico.
We’re not their Dept. of Health, Education and Welfare, even if our president and their president think so.
It isn’t complicated: Either our immigration laws are enforced or they are not.

FTA:

>> “According to CIS, 34% of all immigrant households — or 13.3 million — don’t have health insurance.” <<

I don’t believe that for one nano-second! This article is actually saying that 66% DO have health insurance? Bull.

They are not and you are foolish to think they ever will be.

This leaves out what it costs to incarcerate illegals when they arrive and commit crimes (other than trespassing on our property)—jail and prison costs dwarf other expenses like health care and education.

(This amazing bird analogy courtesy of 3AngelaD.)

"AMERICA IS GOING CUCKOO!"

Some species of birds thrive not by carefully rearing their own young, but by pawning that task off on adults of other species. The European Cuckoo, whose distinctive call is immortalized in the sound of the "cuckoo clock," is the bird in which this habit has been most thoroughly studied. Female European Cuckoos lay their eggs only in the nests of other species of birds. A cuckoo egg usually closely mimics the eggs of the host (one of whose eggs is often removed by the cuckoo).

The host may recognize the intruding egg and abandon the nest, or it may incubate and hatch the cuckoo egg. Shortly after hatching, the young European Cuckoo, using a scoop-like depression on its back, instinctively shoves over the edge of the nest any solid object that it contacts. With the disappearance of their eggs and rightful young, the foster parents are free to devote all of their care to the young cuckoo. Frequently this is an awesome task, since the cuckoo chick often grows much larger than the host adults long before it can care for itself.

One of the tragicomic scenes in nature is a pair of small foster parents working like Sisyphus to keep up with the voracious appetite of an outsized young cuckoo.
