Is "The Golden Compass" a sinister piece of anti-religious propaganda, designed to convert impressionable young viewers into atheist heathens?

It’s open in your neck of the woods?
It don’t open around here until the 7th.
All religious politics aside, Daniel Craig has a lot of audience goodwill coming off “Casino Royale.” I hope he, at least, gets some good notices out of this.
That's really weird.
I checked the movies yesterday on yahoo to see what was playing and it was listed, 7:00 pm showing.
I look today and it is gone, but scheduled for the 7th with four time slots showing.
BTW, Lions for Lambs is listed for one showing. Hehe
He’s making a list and checking it twice....
Question is does he live in a good place... a bad place... or at the north pole.
Pullman has pretty much said his books are intended to subvert christianity, his intnt is to be the polar opposite of C.S. Lewis.
Losing 180 million dollars on a movie would teach most people some sort of a lesson....
FWIW, Nicole Kidman hasn’t been in a hit in forever. She might just be box office poison (like her ex, Tommy).
I heard National Treasure 2 was just as good as the first. I got free movie tickets from my employer, can’t wait to see it.
From today’s NY Post:
THE KIDMAN CURSE

Perhaps it was the pedophile role.
>Once the aura of inevitabliity disappears her campaign will implode.
Bush41 underestimated her husband. Let’s hope for better eh?
If you’re not offended by it and like for your kids to feel the same then of course go see it.
Better yet buy it and show it regularly.
But those Christians here who are tired of Hollywood’s steady denigration of our culture have the right to reject it same as you do to endorse it.

Here are the numbers from Box Office Mojo:
THE GOLDEN COMPASSDon't know about the advertising & marketing budget.
Production Budget: $150 million
Here are the comparable numbers for "V", a movie which is so loathsome that I have never been able to sit down and watch the entire thing when it comes on HBO:
V FOR VENDETTABy comparison, these are the Narnia numbers:
Production Budget: $54 million
Domestic Box: $70,511,035
Foreign Box: $62,000,000
THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE
Production Budget: $180 million
Domestic Box: $291,710,957
Foreign Box: $453,073,000
You know, when you look at what happened to poor Mimi Rogers [although, to her credit, it looks like she really turned her life around after she got out of what must have been a hellish marriage], you almost get the feeling that Nicole Kidman has, in the long run, gotten exactly what she deserved.
Boy, I hate to say that - because Nicole Kidman is one of the most beautiful women who ever walked the face of the earth - but you have to wonder whether - beneath that glorious exterior of hers - there isn't a heart of coal.
Could have been a Saturday night sneak-preview.
If they are sneak-previewing the movie, then that means they aren't satisfied with it

[and might be focus-group testing several different endings to it]

Thanks for the link to “The Kidman Curse”.
That was great fun!
I have no idea of that Botox allegations are true or just some
product of the jealousy rumour-mill...
Because, like a lot of people, I haven’t been watching (or paying
for!) her films!!!
No Perot this time.
Thanks for the linky...Bewitched was horrible; and Cold Mountain could have been wonderful...but it failed too. Nicole gets alot of snarky comments on the celeb sites for her Botox addiction. Sadly, I don’t put all the bad karma on Nicole ...she was Mrs. Cruise for a very long time.
Leftists in the media create movies and TV programs to promote an agenda. They don’t make movies and TV programs for entertainment, and then throw in a few lines to promote their biases.
The entertainment is to get the audience to watch it, and to keep watching it, and to pay little attention to the propaganda, while it gets into the subconcious mind and works its evil.
Examples of this are the evil characters who always just happen to be wearing a cross around their neck. Or the crucifixes in the background in the home of the evil character.
I still don’t see anything any worse than Inherit the Wind. THAT is basically a nazi propaganda flick directed against Christianity and Christians. It’s an anti-Christian equivalent of Der Ewige Jude.
