Airbus A340 Meets Wall. Airbus Loses.(OOPS!)
Airline Empires ^ | November 26, 2007 | miller22

Etihad was to receive their next A340 this week, but it seems that delivery may be delayed. While running an engine test at the Airbus facility in Toulouse, France, the A340-600 jumped the chocks and headed for the blast wall. The good news is the blast wall held up remarkably well. The bad news is the Airbus did not.

It'll take at least a week to get that plane airworthy again.

As an aside, here's a nice aviation image for the Christmas season:

If you’re a clever captain, you change into your “civies” and come off the plane like a passenger saying something like “I’m never going up in one of these again!”

I hate when that happens.

But at least they didn't use a frozen turkey.

(The cognesceti will recognize that one from an old joke about
the impact testing of airliner windshields.)

This is BS.

Blast walls are behind engines, not in front. Something else happened.

La Precedent. Montparnasse, 1895.

Actually, the blast wall did not come through fine.

No warranty action involved. Since it was due for delivery next month, Airbus still owns the aircraft.

Given how complex these aircraft are (100s of miles of cabling, etc.), can’t imagine this aircraft’s fuselage is repairable. It will probably be parted out.
