I am not posting this because I dislike Huckabee and I am not a huge fan of George Will. Here's what I want to know...
George Will endorses Rudy...Rudy and Huckabee are friendly (see last debate)...speculation abounds that Rudy would choose Huck to be his VP in order to throw socons a token and keep them on board...so why does George Will go out of his way to flame Huckabee??????

I just heard Rush discuss the new Rasmussen poll showing Huckabee gaining ground against Rudy in the national poll.
Then, in a clear reference to Huckabee, Rush said that the Drive-by Media will build up the Republican candidate who THEY think is going to be the easiest to defeat in the general election. Then once the candidates are nominated, they will start to tear down the very same GOP candiate that they praised during the primaries.

I don’t much like George Will either. I think he often gets things wrong, or at least sideways.
This is one of those times. The problem with HuckaNanny isn’t his Christianity, it’s his pure, unbridled socialism.
Socialism sucks. Period. Even if pushed by a Baptist Minister.

George and Rudy have to keep the Huckster in his place (as VP that is).

Rush also said that the Drive-Bys want Huck so that they can use his religion to incite fear later on.

Even though I don’t believe a word that comes out of Romney’s mouth, he makes Kerry look like a man of conviction, I would still prefer him to the Huckster. Romney may not believe the conservative talking points that he has so recently discovered, but at least he is mouthing him. Huckabee seems to have many believing that he is “the conservative” candidate, based on his status as a former minister, while not having to back off of his liberal philosophy. If elected, Huckabee can say, “Hey, you knew I was for Amnesty and big government. I have a mandate.”
Scary.

Answer: Will should never have been anything but a sportswriter. He is way out of his league.

Rasmussen daily tracking polls today showed Guilianni at 20% and Huckabee at 17%. That’s where this attack comes from . . . Will the shill for his man Rudy.

Dunno...but he’s right about Huck.
Huckabee appeals to the segment of Evangelicals that feel that being Christian and in politics means you must impose those values by legislative fiat.
Nothing could be further from the truth.

Duncan Hunter doesn’t need to constantly prove his Conservatism because it has been obvious throughout his political career through his actions while the so called “top tier” candidates keep trying to prove with words only their sudden “Conservatism” to each other and the world.

Huckabee has a poor track record on issues that should be among the most important to conservatives and patriots. He would be unable to clearly differentiate himself from FRudy McRomney on the important issues of growth of government and illegal immigration.
The shame is that one of the two candidates who offer a true conservative, small government platform - Tom Tancredo or Duncan Hunter - couldn’t have been the one to place second in the Iowa straw poll and be propelled to the point that Huckabee is now in.
Regardless of who the GOP candidate is in November, it’s looking like conservative voters are going to be in for another disappointment.
FRudy McRomnee offer nanny state, big government, open border amnesty with a pinch of socialized health care, and conservatives and patriots are looking at another four or eight years of watching the country they love follow the path of every once-great nation.

George Will is his own man. I don’t think the circumlocution of pairing Huck and Rudy enters into it.
Maybe he likes Rudy because they are both Yankees fans, and as an elite and conservative intellectual, Rudy’s metro-conservatism hits his vibes better than a southern populist.
Huck and Rudy are like dipolar oppositions in the GOP big tent. It’s a “potassium chloride” ticket, one the social liberal security/crime-con, the other the tax-and-spend-and-compassionate-on-crime social conservative.
Be that as it may, I wouldn’t want to be on the end of Will’s rapier pen.

It sounds like George Will has no plans ever to seek the presidency of Bryan College in Dayton, TN (named for Wiliam Jennings Bryan).
