WASHINGTON, Dec. 4, 2007 Some Army civilian employees may get layoff notices before Christmas, because $178 billion in emergency funds have not yet been approved to continue the war on terror, a senior Defense Department official said today.
President Bush called on Congress twice publicly this week to pass an emergency funding bill, but has vowed to veto any bill that imposes a mandatory troop withdrawal date. |

Amen! The dims are putting our troops and our nation in peril..
O&M pays for a lot more than that. Almost everything, other than military construction of facilities, that is not R&D or procurement of new equipment, is 0&M. Even the salaries of those who oversee the R&D and procurement of new equipment are often paid out of O&M funds.
Not much pork in the O&M accounts, most of which is in the R&D/Procurement and military construction, accounts. I suspect that's why Congress has not allowed transfers from those other accounts, wouldn't want the pork fed to the troops instead of to those who donated money to the CongressCritter's campaigns, now would they?
San Francisco and Las Vegas hardest hit
It's not like this is the first time. Ask any South Vietnamese, Cambodian or Laotian, if they aren't dead or in a camp somewhere that is.
With the current enemy those who were on our side, in the least little manor, like kids who took candy, new tennis shoes, soccer balls or books from our troops will be in great danger of losing their heads, literally.
This is just so wrong I say congress gets no vacation and no pay till our troops get the money they need to finish their mission
ping
HEAR HEAR!!
Since the Army is slated to take money from the USAF and Navy, I suspect they will be hit harder and sooner.
But that’s just a guess - for now..
