Political Animal) HUCKABEE SURGING....According to the LA Times, Mike Huckabee's newfound success goes beyond just Iowa. Nationally, he's climbed into second place: Mike Huckabee, the ascendant Republican presidential candidate in Iowa, is enjoying a surge of support across the country and Rudolph W. Giuliani seems to be paying the biggest price, a new Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll has found.
....In the Times/Bloomberg poll, Huckabee was preferred by 17% of likely GOP voters up from 7% in a similar October survey. Support for Giuliani, the former New York mayor who once enjoyed a commanding lead in national polls, slid 9 percentage points over the last two months to 23%.
The survey, conducted under the supervision of Times Poll Director Susan Pinkus, was based on interviews from Friday through Monday of 1,245 registered voters, including 529 who expect to support a Democrat and 428 who expect to support a Republican.
The margin of error was plus or minus 4 percentage points for the Democratic sample and plus or minus 5 percentage points for the GOP group. For the entire group, the margin of error was plus or minus 3 percentage points.
So 83% of GOP voters do not prefer Huckabee. That doesn’t look like a surge to me.
So, whom do you like in this race, and how is HE doing?
Giuliani 23
Huckabee 17
undecided 17
Thompson 14
McCain 11
Romney 9
Paul 7
Hunter 3
other 1
Margin of error +/- 3%
It seems highly unlikely to me that Huckabee is draining away Giuliani supporters. They each have their own constituency.
Perhaps it’s merely that more people have a preference now. But I’m not buying the notion that Rudy supporters are shifting to Huckabee.
I can honestly say that I do not have a favorite nor is there a candidate (other than Ron Paul) who I would not vote for under any circumstances. Since we poor souls in Pennsylvania don’t get to vote until April or May I’ll just wait until the earlier voters cull the herd a little before I get too excited about a candidate.
The internals of this poll are really questionable. I do not know if this poll can be trusted at all.
I just never thought that place would end up being the Republican party.
Yech...
Now why do you imagine that is?
Could it be that they realize that the biggest weakness their 'rat candidate will have will be on the illegal alien front, and that a Huckster nomination will nullify that subject in the election?
the “surge” is in iraq.
anything going on here is sheer puffery and inflation,
not to mention defamation.
The Huckster “may” win IA, but after that he’s done.
Huckabee’s boat has sprung a leak... Theres a murmur from the crowd.. its starting to grow louder. If you listen youll be able to hear their words:
SINK HUCK SINK”
SINK HUCK SINK
SINK HUCK SINK”
Excellent point.
Yes. They have a cunning plan. The illegal immigration issue is definitely part of their "love" for this man. Will the voters fall for it?
Free Thinkers ... Support Fred Thompson.
I refuse to take Huckabee's ascendancy seriously. Remember: the people now breathless to claim Huckabee the rising star of the GOP are the same ones whose juices McCain got flowing.
And when (if) the Huckster is nominated, the same MSM will turn on a dime and attack him as a corrupt Elmer Gantry preacherman hypocrite.
I could live with Huckabee IF IF IF IF IF he can convince me that he’s going to veto amnesty if it passes. I know full well his record in Arkansas, but he claims on his website that he opposed the DREAM Act and last year’s amensty bill.
Yeah, he’s probably lying but with the current lineup of candidates I kind of feel like saying “tell me those sweet little lies.”
