EVERETT -- The driver of a gasoline tanker truck that crashed this morning and caused an explosion that ignited a massive fire has been cited for speeding by State Police.
State Police Major Kevin Kelly said a witness saw the truck driving at an excessive rate of speed through Sweetser traffic circle at 1 a.m. The operator lost control and the tanker slid on its side, puncturing its hull containing 9,400 gallons of gasoline, which ignited and spilled like a river of fire onto Main Street.
It looked like a war zone, Everett Fire Chief David Butler said. They had heavy fire conditions. Two buildings fully involved in fire. ... They had a pretty serious situation.

These photos must be faked! I have it on good authority (Rosie O’Donnell) that fire can’t melt steel.
Wow! great pictures.
I notice that once again burning hydrocarbon melts metal.
And nobody hurt, that’s the best thing.
And no one was killed. Now that’s a minor miracle.
Streets intersect in a circle rather than having stop signs or lights. The Boston area is full of them. They are a lot of fun if you like bumper cars.
In Everett? How many sub shops burned down?
The guy in the middle seems to have a healthy flow but the guy right behind him might want to see a doctor.
I know, I know...go to my room...fine...
Yes, and gasoline, ingited during the crash, poured down an embankment into a residential area causing havoc.
Wow. How surreal... firehoses become snowmakers and excess firefighting water freezes on whatever isn’t on fire. Fire and ice.

LOL
What a story that was .... For years, after that disaster, the aroma of molasses permeated the North End on a humid summer night.
Amazing pictures. What’s more amazing is that no one died.
It was 25F at 1:00AM.
I must admit ... I copped them from the Boston Globe.
LOL. Whatever it takes. No major injuries!!!
I didn’t think you actually took them! lol
Because no one seems to remember the basic rule of the rotary;
The vehicle in the rotary has the right of way. If you drive on Cape Cod in the Summer, you'd better know and practice that one.
