“The Iranians are doing the same regarding their nuclear weapons programs, build the most important ingredient for the weapons which is enriched uranium and claim it is for civilian use. Fortunately our President did not fall for these lies.”

I don’t like Iran as much as the next freeper and want the Mullahs gone, and would support can attack if it had a realistic goal.

However, the centrifuges they have don’t produce weapons grade material. I think that stuff is hidden deep underground.

“That Adm Mullen is off to Israel speaks volumes as to the seriousness of the administration’s damage control on the current NIE.”

He’s gonna say, didn’t you dopes learn your lesson at Annapolis recently? I don’t see th point of inviting the Admiral. Israel is acting like the dog who, even though his master kicks him around, still licks his hand.

Adm Mullen won’t visit with the civilian government officials and it’s doubtful he’ll discuss local politics with those he meets.

1) All politics is local, even when it’s international

2) Annapolis was a disaster. The end result was inevitable and obvious. We did it anyway.

An interesting article and some excellent commentary on this thread make it a worthwhile read when you have a bit of spare time.

Sure....Didn't Hillary say she would be the instrument for change? Didn't the damaging NIE come out just prior to her pledge?

This was a political shot across the bow of the Bush policy towards Iran.....but Bush ain't running for office. Cheney won't run either. None of the Republicans in the running have expressed views on Iran, Iraq or Israel in the manipulated debates......or anything pertinent to the war and national security. It's been God, gays and ....hell, I don't know....global warming.

The NIE is the ball in Hillary's court.

I guess it depends on how detailed one attempts to go at it with the materials presented (past reports as well as the over all scenario painted as how Iran conducts clandestine programs).
Now with the Russians in the process of shipping them the uranium fuel rods, and the nuclear power plant close to operational, they will have the means in the future to keep the plutonium extracted from the spent rods. How long would it take them to build a plutonium bomb.
So many things to consider. Will things they require for these programs, continue to shrink as sanctions are maintained. Will they get things on the black market.

Iran: Nuclear Intentions and Capabilities [NIE summary text] Director of National Intelligence ^ | November, 2007

Posted on 12/11/2007 8:29:36 AM PST by SJackson

LINK.

F. We assess with moderate confidence that Iran probably would use covert facilities—rather than its declared nuclear sites—for the production of highly enriched uranium for a weapon. A growing amount of intelligence indicates Iran was engaged in covert uranium conversion and uranium enrichment activity, but we judge that these efforts probably were halted in response to the fall 2003 halt, and that these efforts probably had not been restarted through at least mid-2007...

well, that's all right then, there's really nothing to worry about, for a moment there I thought this Iranian nuclear situation was SERIOUS! (SARC)

YAWN, ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ GO BACK TO SLEEP!
