Gary Solis, a former Marine Corps attorney and a military law professor, said the service appears to be taking a very aggressive stance against Nelson.
“I know of no other case except Haditha where individuals have been charged with misconduct in the course of battle,” Solis said.
The case emerged when a former member of the Kilo Company squad from Camp Pendleton’s 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, Ryan Weemer, allegedly told the Secret Service during a job interview several months ago that he was aware of an “unlawful death.”
Someone is bound and determined to cut their pound of flesh from the Corps, by hook or by crook.
Yea if they can’t get the Muslims to kill them, just put them in prison.
Especially when the lawyers get involved.
William Shakespeare (Henry VI Part 2):
Dick:
"The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers."
Jack Cade:
"Nay, that I mean to do. Is not this a lamentable thing,
that of the skin of an innocent lamb should be made parchment?
that parchment, being scribbled o'er, should undo a man?"
This case has been up before. Last time it came out that radio traffic and other evidence did a lot to refute the claims made by the whiner that started this crap.
Either something else got dredged up out of the abyss of invented evidence or someone’s just doing old fashioned witch hunting.
How does a civilian court have any jurisdiction over “crimes” that occur in foreign countries? Isn’t that like getting charged for speeding in a New York court for driving 75mph in Nevada?
I am an old man who volunteered during the Vietnam era. If I was a kid now I wouldn't!
I guess Murtha is rolling over in his grave with laughter wait, he isnt dead yet, my bad. ;-)
This stinks of a witch hunt, to paraphrase your words. The precedent could immobilize our military if random judges (think ninth circuit) could grant themselves jurisdiction over all military personnel.
The enemy in our rear area is every bit as dangerous as the enemy to our front.
That law is a bit more severe than laws regarding citizen LEOs. Police routinely shoot suspects in this country and it is all justified by the prosecutors...
“That charge alleges he failed to follow the rules of engagement and the laws of war regarding the handling of detained prisoners of war.”
Why does the prosecutor care. Its not like he let them escape or something truly tragic.
“The enemy in our rear area is every bit as dangerous as the enemy to our front.”
Never forget, just as the Viet Nam war was lost in America and not in Viet Nam; the Iraq war is being won in Iraq and lost in America...who says Communism is dead. For the past fifty years, the Commies infiltrated our colleges & universities, indoctrinating America’s children with it’s propaganda...and as a result, the MSM has been inundated for decades with anti-American Liberal Arts graduates parroting Communist tripe !
“Liberalism is just Communism sold by the drink.”
P.J.O’Rourke
Amen.
And Im sure that when this whole thing is over and he is found innocent, he will be jumping all over the prospect of re-upping for another tour. /s
Another well trained and experienced Marine down the drain.
