SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. -- First, a homeless child rape suspect turned violent in a Seminole County courtroom. Then he was forced to wear a mask on his face to keep him from spitting, before the jury returned a guilty verdict late Thursday afternoon.
Antonio Rosales is accused of raping a 10-year-old girl. Before court could even begin Thursday, a judge had to decide if Rosales was competent to stand trial after a violent outburst Wednesday.
After a brief hearing Thursday, Rosales told a judge he wanted to be left out of the courtroom because he said he might lash out again. Initially, a team of deputies brought 41-year-old Antonio Rosales into the courtroom wearing a bizarre mesh head-covering and a mask. Authorities said they put it on him after he threatened to spit at people.
It was the second strange scene in two days. Wednesday afternoon, Rosales erupted in the courtroom as prosecutor Anna Valentini made her closing argument.
The illegal immigrant from Guatemala is on trial for the attempted murder and sexual battery of a 10-year-old girl in Casselberry in 2003. A court appointed doctor said Rosales was insulted by the allegation he's a child molester.
"This is someone who told me that was he is insulted," court-appointed doctor Jeffrey Danziger said.
Despite the outburst, the judge found Rosales competent to continue his trial. During that hearing, extra deputies surrounded Rosales, who promised to behave.
But, before the jury returned, Rosales asked to stay out of the courtroom so he wouldn't hear the same disturbing details of how prosecutors say he pulled a girl into the woods and tried to kill her four years ago.
"He strangled her so much it left bruises on her face and insect bites all over her body," Anna Valentini said in court Thursday.
Late Thursday afternoon, the jury returned a guilty verdict against Rosales on charges of kidnapping, attempted murder and sexual battery after deliberating for around two hours. Rosales faces a mandatory life sentence, but has to stand trial for murder in Arizona.
That's okay Anna. We know, I guess, what you meant.
That picture should be on billboards.
It was not a happy experience and had it been left to me and not the others, I would have begun deliberations and returned a verdict as quickly as possible. The others preferred, at the encouragement of those who shepherd the jury around, to have a leisurely 2 hr. lunch before deliberations began. After all, the other jurors seemed to believe they were entitled to the spread supplied by the county, and we were informed it had already been ordered and would go to waste if it were not consumed.
His predecessors, while at fault for the same thing, were also not dealing with MILLIONS taking over our country. We are literally being invaded by illegals. It is disrupting our entire society. Bush can be blamed for not stopping this invasion.
Just because other presidents ALSO refused to do what they should have done (and we’d have been better off for it), does not give Bush a pass, especially post-9/11 when we are also being invaded by criminal terrorists coming over our borders *with his knowledge*.
I saw the previous article on this. He raped and murdered his landlady. She was in her 70’s if I remember correctly.
He admitted already that he did this to the little girl, but of course he doesn’t remember the really bad parts. (sarcasm)
He says he just fondled and kissed her. He actually choked her until she lost conciousness, he did his business, then left her laying in the woods and left. That is why she had insect bites.
He is a piece of garbage and I could give a rat’s patooty how insulted he is. I hope they insult him all the way to death row and execution.
bttt!
While you are free to point the finger at the President, you must also keep in mind that Congress was willing to declare amnesty for all until the American people stopped them.
I do not give Bush a pass in any shape, form, or fashion, but I cannot place the majority of the blame on him either. We've always had criminals and terrorists coming across the border, their methods have just become more efficient.
Paging Rudy McRombee...
With the exception of people like Tom Tancredo, who became personna non gratta, and Jeff Sessions, who lead the charge AGAINST Bush and his policies. This is SHAMEFUL what Bush is doing. Had he been a leader of this country, and not an apparent leader for Mexico as concerns our own borders and immigration, I'd at least be able to say he doesn't deserve the flak. But he deserves all of it and more. Leaders are followed, and he's done a great job making sure he's got the "right kind" of followers. Thank God for Tancredo and Sessions, who have been stonewalling Bush and the Rats' plans for amnesty.
And we have not always had to live in the world of 9/11. That occurred only while Bush was in office and both he and Clinton should have IMMEDIATELY sealed our borders after each trade center attack. What's Bush's excuse? He's left them wide open and it's been over 6 years. No excuses. No passes.
Yes, but whatever goulish gern his face twists into might be the one into which it freezes. This could add comic flavor to the event.
Perhaps we could go back to the Roman days and put their heads on display along the road. : )
They knew a good idea when they had one.
Also, the Puritans...didn’t they carry over the public stocks here???
That should be reinstituted for illegals. : )
To me, there are a lot of "johnnie-come-lately" types jumping in on the illegal issue, all the while blaming Bush. Where the hell were all these guys 20 years ago when we used to see boxcar loads of illegals heading north?
Why are you so willing to exonerate Bush from the role he’s played in keeping the borders open? for trying to force through amnesty (long after even Reagan said it was a big mistake)?
Why are you so willing not to pin the “leader” with the tail he’s due?
It’s HIS policies he’s been pushing and forcing onto congress and others.
It’s HIS policies that he’s been making HIS attorneys follow, i.e., his dear friend scumbag Sutton.
It’s words which have come out of HIS mouth calling the Minutemen and those like them, vigilantes, who have done nothing but try to get our borders secured.
Bush has done LOTS. But ALL in the name of and jockeying for open borders.
What an animal!
BTW, 20 years ago, we weren’t pressing 1 for English....when LOTS of people were yelling about the illegals.
It’s just some people, many people, had their heads in the sand.
They finally pulled their heads out from wherever they’ve kept them over the past 2 years....because NOW they’re finally seeing how the MILLIONS of illegals coming across our border are lowering our standard of living, taking seats in schools away from our children, stealing tuition from legal citizens, bankrupting hospitals which are forced to treat them, losing loved ones in Law Enforcement because they’ve been murdered by them, losing other loved ones because they’re using their uninsured vehicles as lethal weapons as they drive drunk on our highways, losing the daughter’s innocence as they are raped by them....the list goes on and on.
Finally, SOME in America have woken up to the PROBLEM.
When it’s almost too late.
Save your sorry excuses for Bush. He’s responsible, imho, for every death and rape that has occurred in the past at least 5 years by illegal hands because he MAKES CERTAIN THE BORDER STAYS OPEN. He does not have his administration go after employers who hire illegals except shortly before someone’s campaign in November. The stats prove how prosecutions and charges against employers have dwindled while he’s been in office.
