Hillary can’t beat Oprah
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | 12-10-07 | Jim Wooten

Barack Obama may have The Bomb.

And it’s not aboard the Enola Gay. It’s now aboard the Obama Express campaign for the Democratic Presidential nomination. Suddenly Hillary’s not looking invincible.

The secret weapon is, of course, Oprah, the nationally adored talk-show host. She attracted a crowd estimated at almost 30,000 Sunday in Columbia, S.C., after campaigning with him Saturday in Iowa.

“There are those who say it’s not his time, that he should wait his turn,” she told the crowd in Columbia. “Think about where you’d be in your life if you’d waited when people told you to.”

She added, too, a line that could build some fire under his campaign and attract disgruntled Independents, and perhaps even some Republican women: “I’m sick of politics as usual.”

Much of the nation is. But it’s quite a feat to get from that declaration to mobilizing the turned-off segment and delivering them to a specific candidate. But I’m not one to underestimate Oprah. Clinton and Obama are neck-and-neck in Iowa, and she’s up in the 5-10 percentage point range in New Hampshire and South Carolina. That’s within the Oprah impact zone.

The nomination’s still Hillary’s to lose. She can beat Obama. But she can’t beat Oprah.

Sad that people would vote for that Obama guy just because of Oprah. That is disgusting!!!

I dunno. This is an interesting development. Anyone care to speculate upon the ramifications?

How does Oprah line up? Considering her rise to power on her own hook, I wonder if she'll be to the right of the Clintons'?. Is this a coup? is the Chicago Machine attempting to assert itself in a power play?

Oprah is a player, just by the sheer size of her organization, not to mention one of the biggest wallets in America. I wonder what it means when she comes a'callin' ?

How dare that Oprah support Obama and campaign against the wife of the first black president.

I think Hillary is too up tight to experience the big O herself.

“I’m sick of politics as usual.”

Yes, yes, Oprah - we're all sick and tired of politics as usual, that is, unless it's practiced from our side. Obama mouths pretty words, but in the end he's no different than Hillary and the rest of the liberals that you entertainment types gyrate towards.

Spare us your 'wisdom', sweetie.

Not only that Hillary Clinton turned a blind eye on Bill Clinton illegal affairs with many women but she was in charge of shutting down these women and that is by the admission of liberals and the Clintons friends. She did all this not to protect her husband but to protect her incredible lust for power. This will play very badly against Hillary Clinton in the general elections that in addition that she has a fatal character flaw and that is she is the meanest and most unlikable person to run for President in decades. Of course in addition that she is a communist and socially liberal to the most extreme.

I agree. Obama’s success or failure depends upon one thing: Oprah’s commitment. If Oprah’s sufficiently committed, she can pull it off.

"The Nitty-gritty of all this is that the Dems have no one who is both qualified and moral."

Neither being qualified nor being moral is a consideration of the 21st century Democrat Party.

“I thought she was supposed to be a woman of ACTION!?”

If she had been Bill might not have had to look for action elsewhere.

LOL, I get that 'bubble, bubble, toil and trouble', stirring the giant pot over an open flame imagery, myself.

For some reason, I thought Oprah would go for Hil, both being powerful, left-leaning women from Chicago. And yet, I somehow don't think it's just a race issue for Oprah, either. So I wonder why Oprah didn't go for the only woman running? Oprah might just keep Hil from the White House. And I think Hil's public appearance with her own mom and Chelsea, something that it seems she doesn't ever do, is her own acknowledgment of the pressure. Oprah is hard to beat - 'that's why she's Opraaaaaahhh!'

The real question is who will the democrats nominate, Edwards, Biden or Kucinich. They are the only viable candidates

Probably Edwards. Smart money from day one, based purely on the process of elimination (certainly not on talent or experience). Evan Bayh could've walked away with the nomination with relative ease had he not conceded it to Hillary from the git-go. He'll be there in '12 if the GOP holds onto the Presidency.

Oprah is everthing that Hillary! is not.She didn’t inherit her billion dollar wealth or power from anyone, she did it all on her own.She is a true American success story whether you like her or not.

That may well be, but I find it fascinating that Oprah pulls out the Southern Drawl when she feels like it and drops it when she feels like it, the same way that Hillary does -- the only difference being that Oprah's drawl comes from her growing years. But both come off fake and superficial, especially when they use it with *particular* crowds.
