Colorado Church Gunman `Hated Christians'
Houston Chronicle ^ | 12-10-07 | Judith Kohler

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The deadly shooting sprees at a megachurch and a missionary training school were believed to have been carried out by the same person — a 24-year-old suburban Denver man who "hated Christians," a law enforcement official told The Associated Press.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly about the investigation, identified the gunman as Matthew Murray, the son of a neurologist who is a prominent researcher on multiple sclerosis.

Five people — including a gunman — were killed, and five others wounded Sunday in the two eruptions of violence 12 hours and 65 miles apart.

The first attack took place at a youth missionary training center in the Denver suburb of Arvata; the other happened at the New Life Church in Colorado Springs, where the gunman was shot and killed by a security guard.

The law enforcement official said Murray was believed to be the gunman in both attacks. Murray did not appear to have a criminal history but "hated Christians," the official said. The official did not know Murray's religion, if any.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE.

I don’t mind. My pastor packs heat and it doesn’t bother me.

Basically, if you have to choose between worship and having an armed guard ...libs would say you should forego your religous activities because self -defense is EVIL.

A church with 7000 in attendance would probably be a nice haul of loot for armed thieves.Permit to carry works:when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

I think we can give him a pass on this one.

His family can take some comfort from that the fact that, had he not been killed by one of those vicious Christian parishioners, he wouldn't have been eligible for a cartooning enhancement to his sentence.

Been lots of posted articles about this and much discussion. All the articles and discussion will not stop the next attack. There will be more, it’s only just beginning.

Biblical prophecy indicates that Christians will be hated, persecuted, tortured, and killed for their beliefs. I believe that prophecy and current events support my beliefs.

Jesus instructed his disciples to sell their clothing for swords. Jesus did show anger more than once. His teachings do not forbid defending oneself.

ALL Christians need to remember this. It’s going to get MUCH worse. Jesus was willing to die for us. Are we willing to die for Him?

All I’m advocating self-defense. Nothing more, nothing less.

“I was asking the Holy Spirit to guide me the entire time.”

I'd love to post that quote to the jerk who put up a message on a local board a few minutes after the shooting that read, "where's your God now?"

I'd put up the quote, followed by, "Uh... right there."

The story at the link doesn't have the same title. And the first couple paragraphs read like this:

Title at the link is Colo. church gunman had been kicked out

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The gunman believed to have killed four people at a megachurch and a missionary training school had been thrown out of the school a few years ago and had been sending it hate mail, police said in court papers Monday.

The gunman was identified as Matthew Murray, 24, who was home-schooled in what a friend said was a deeply religious Christian household. Murray's father is a neurologist and a leading multiple-sclerosis researcher.

Notwithstanding all the speculation, this sounds more like your basic ‘yuppie child who didn’t get his way’ story than anything else.

I've seen it too... it seems to be worse lately. And that's something that I've been having a hard time with. It hurts when I read the hateful stuff, even calls for christians to die. But as appalchian said, it's going to get worse, in the future.

We have to remember to put on our armour of God everyday. btw, I should also take the advice of a little video I put together, to encourage Christians. :-) Click if you want to see it.

"Legalism is the term people use to blame their rebellion on someone else instead of the real reason, their own sinful heart."

Not necessarily so. There are a surprising number of "pastor-centered" "independent" "Christian" churches whose teachings are totally off the rails in the direction of preaching absolute male dominance and female submission. I had the sad duty of rescuing a devoted Christian from marriage to a violent and despotic "Biblical" legaist who would fit in well with the Taliban.

One member of such a "Bible" church narrowly escaped permanent retribution when I saw the massive bruises he had inflicted with his "Scriptural rod" on my 7-year-old granddaughter. Fortunately, time, distance -- and prayer -- helped me cool down enough to let the legal system handle the situation...

Satan does very well at cloaking himself in "Christianity" -- in the guise of "Biblical legalism"...

"sounds like a kid that hated his upbringing"

I hate the liberal brainwashing I got as a kid, but I don't go and shoot Walter Cronkite because of it.

Amen. There needs to be a balance. That's what the New Testament is good for.

Does your church not have to have locks on its doors and windows?

Is your church able to not lock up the money it collects on Sunday?

I am not trying to be rude, just to make you think. Your previous statement (of belonging to a church that does not need protection) does not appear to be rational.
